When my wife and I were looking to settle in the area we did exhaustive research into all of the school systems within in a 50 mile radius. CPCS won hands down! We have been here for 5+ years and we could not be happier with our choice! The student teacher ratios are amazing, the positive, challenging, and nurturing environment is fantastic. The entire community really supports the school.
My children have been very happy here! The faculty and staff work together to support each other and are quite positive about putting the children first! I love the combined classrooms, all the children and parents know each other. The teacher to student ratio is wonderful! My children ate getting a private education at a public school! The one on one learning is the best!
Because I work through BOCES, I have worked in 8 school districts in St. Lawrence County providing speech therapy services over my 33 year career. I feel blessed and honored to have had the privledge of working in this district for the past 19 years! The teachers and administrators REALLY care about the students. The learning environment is very nuturing here. And 'best practices' and instruction based on research is strongly encouraged! I wish that I had been able to afford to bring my own daughter here for her public education!
I have two children who attend CPCS. They are bothin the elementary school. There are many positive aspects to the school. The pre-K program was great when my children attended it. It was only part time with a home visit scheduled in, now it is 5 half days with no home visit. The first grade teachers did a great job with reading and making learning fun. My one complaint with the school is that the special classes seem to be limited by teachers who are not truly focused on making art, music, and physical education a fun and creative part of the student's day. My children rarely bring home quality art projects and they frequently complain about how they are limited in the activities that are done, i.e. watching movies, listening to teacher talk too much and not having time to perform activities, etc. Combined class rooms also a neg.
the homework would be much easier if we could have a duplicate set of books at home for the kids starting at grade 4 on up. These kids are carrying backpacks that weigh about 50 lbs! A one-time purchase of duplicate set of books would solve this problem.
