Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

The majority of teachers here do just what they have to do to get by, they are collecting a pay check and have no real interest in educating children. The administration accepts their attitude, and does not want to hear or help with any teacher/student problems. I wish I was able to send my children somewhere, anywhere else.

My daughter is receiving a quality education, and enjoys going to school every day. To me, that says alot.

My child has many learning disabilites and I find I am the one who has to make suggestions for the teachers. I feel the teachers should be coming to me with suggestion on how to help my child. Accomodations should be put in place and followed thru. However, I find the teacher do not go the extra mile to help and blame the child and lack of availability. I have been a resident for over 20 years. I have a college aged child who was academically advanced and for him the school was great. However, my special needs child has been struggling for years and I have had to fight for her every year.

Parent involvement is not encouraged in this school at all, the majority of teachers I have interacted with in the three years my child has attended the middle school have treated me more like an enemy than someone they want to hear from or work with. I have had teachers disregard phone messages from me. I have had emails ignored. A great deal of the teachers refuse to use the wonderful tool of schoolnotes.com to communicate with parents and students. Last year my child was given a huge (all major subjects) cooperative project to do over Christmas vacation, it was turned in the day after vacation and the teachers took more than three months to grade it and return it! The principal talks up a storm in assemblies with parents, but exhibits poor leadership and a 'hands off' attitude when it comes to her teachers.

My child attended the Middle School and I was very happy with the academics, extra help & overall performance of the school and their faculty. I highly recommend this school and the Happauge School District.

Lack of discipline is a problem, teachers tend to look the other way, too worried about protecting their jobs.

I am a former alumni, a parent of an 8th grade student and an employee of this school as well. Boy, things sure have changed. There is absolutely no discipline at all, in fact the students are free to curse and spit at the monitors and kitchen staff. There is no respect being taught. I know, because I witness this behavior. The principal and both the assistant principals do absolutely nothing. My child has been harassed several times by another student. Each time the other students behavior was reported to the principals office. Nothing was done. In fact, the last time it occured, my child was told by a teacher to go home and complain to me because the teachers are tired of reporting behavior to the principals office and nothing being done about it. It isn't a good environment for learning.
