My daughter loves this school. The teachers and principal are very friendly and there is always something going on that the kids can participate in. My daughter has allergy issues and the school, nurse, and district have been EXCELLENT concerning this issue regarding necessary accomodations. I couldn't recommend this school enough!

Our kindergartner was behind in her reading and writing compared the other kids. Her teacher identified her troubles and recommended a daily reading program and since our child has greatly improved and was approved for 1st grade. Top notch school, great programs for the kids and great teachers.

My son is in Kindergarden and absolutely loves going to school everyday. They do so many activities (learning and outside field trips)

I am a substitute teacher at Cayuga Heights and have had several experiences in other schools. This being said, I must admit that it is apparent how caring, dedicated, and involved the teachers, principal, staff, and parents are at Cayuga. Not only is it apparent by working with the adults, but also through working with the students. Everyday it is so exciting to see the confidence these children project as well as the enthusiasm they show for their school (which is also reflected in their work). It is a pleasure to work in this district. - Ms. Braun

I have 2 children attending Cayuga Heights presently. I have been impressed by the personal attention my children have received not only by their teachers but the principal, assistant principal, nurses and other staff. Everyone knows most of the children by their names. This is my daughter's last year there and although 4th grade is stressful (ELA exams) for the children it is just as stressful for the parents and the teachers who have made teaching their careers and have had to change their teaching habits to 'NYS teaching habits'. Cayuga Hts has been diligent in the preparation for the ELA's beginning at the K level. Thank all of you at Cayuga for making school a happy, healthy, enjoyable educational experience for my children. Nina and Cody will thank you in the years to follow.

I have two sons who have attended their first and second grade and it was a good experience for them as well as for myself. The teacher's were fair and cared very much about their work. I know my son's aren't perfect little angels but they were always treated well and fairly and honestly. thank you. AAD

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
