I am a former student from DCS and now a parent of current students. I also work in 8 other school districts in another county and i have to say that Deposit is defintely one of the best. I see some pretty awful things out there and thank god when I come home that my children are in Deposit school. I even have teachers call me at home, on thier own time, with concerns for my children. Most of these teachers truly care about these students and do what ever the can to help them. I agree that there needs to be more after school activities for these children.
My child is finishing kindergarten and I am very disappointed that there are no after school programs except for a limited library one that was offered. It would seem to me to have such a new facility that is so under utilized is a great loss to the community. Why isn't more being done to provide enriching activites for the children of Deposit?
I am both a parent and a former student of DCS. Through the years and three children, I have seen several excellent teachers that motivated my children and they loved going to school. On the other hand they had several teachers that did nothing to motivate them or encourage them. I am sorry but I disagree with have teachers in a union. The union makes the school districts keep teachers that do not care about the children and should move on because they have lost their motivation to teach. Through the years I have seen a our district used as a stepping stone for both administrative and teaching positions. A few of the best teachers we have had stayed and made a positive impression on us, thank the Lord for them. On the other hand we have many that only care about their paychecks and themselves more than the children.
The leadership and mentor qualities are extremely lacking. These are school children, many of which could prosper with positive reinforcement and a constructivist based approach. Unfortunately, though, what transpires all too often is a drill sergeant mentality that dissuades a student from wanting to participate in school, let alone attain greater academic achievement.
As a former student of Deposit, I would have to disagree with everyone. The teachers at Deposit all work hard for what they get paid. They push the kids to be all that they can be. If a child is falling behind, there are programs that help them catch up and go beyond. Deposit is definitely one of the better schools in the area.
I completely agree with the previous review in regards to control and discipline. Unfortunately, despite some good new teachers, many of the old school tactics are still practiced.
If you can get passed the disciplinary code of control and compliance you might have a chance. There are no after school sports , enrichment, or social activities. Yelling and forms of intimidation are preferred types of classroom management techniques. Positive reinforcement is rarely used. There is no teaching on computer use. Computer class is only to impliment subject area that has been presented. The small class size is a plus and the few teachers that actually like children are remarkable. Sometimes adminisrtaters and teachers forget that they are actually there for the children ,not to further their careers or other personal benifits.
