I have three children who have or are going to JA. For the most part, the teachers have been excellent - very caring and supportive. The principal is terrific. How many prinicples would show up at a PTA movie night to get the projection and sound working right? Or, dress up as a farmer for the annual Howdown? Parental involvement is very high - it's often difficult to get a parking spot for Open House, concerts, or other events.
I have one daughter entering 3rd grade this year and another entering kindergarten, and we love this school. They have done such a wonderful job of making my new kindergartner feel comfortable -- lots of opportunities for her to visit without her older sister, and she'll be meeting her teacher at the end of August. My oldest has been attending JA since kindergarten, and each year, she has had the opportunity to be a part of a smaller group of students to learn at a different pace than the rest of her classmates. Every child learns differently & I realize it's impossible to be able to meet all of their different needs all of the time, but our experience at JA is that everyone has tried to help every kind of student be the best that they can be.
I have 2 children attending at the present time. Not a good school in my opinion-horrible actually- it is with me working with my children and teaching them at home as well that they are learning at the rate they are certainly not any help by the teachers alone!
We moved to Fairport due to the excellent reputation of their schools. My daughter had a great kindergarten teacher and the absolutely best 2nd grade teacher. However, her first grade year was with a very poor teacher. The administration recognized this and sent nearly half her class to a summer reading program to catch up with their peers. School experience is only as good as the teacher you get, but you have a pretty good chance of getting an excellent teacher at JA and definitely have an administration that is caring.
JA is a wonderful school. My daughter has had an excellent time in 3rd grade with a wonderful teacher. However, teachers are variable. Still, administration and others make it a positive experience.
Parents are encouraged to help out in grades K through 3rd. In fact, most teachers use parents for additional help on a daily basis.
Our children have been so fortunate to attend this school. Every year we have been impressed with the teachers and their level of caring and involvement, as well as the numerous activities offered. Principal interaction is high and beneficial to the students as well. A great school, with great staff. Very high parent involvement too. This school is a true community, and you can see the results of that in the students.
This is a phenomenal school with enthusiastic and knowledgeable teachers. The parent involvement is high, with lots of organized activities and events. JA not only raises smart kids, but also kind kids who learn to be good citizens. We have been so happy with Jefferson Ave School and the Fairport district.
