This was a great neighborhood to grow up in and the teachers were amazing! The school also has great diversity.

I just saw the post below this and I'm shocked by the attitude of that parent. My child is also in g&t and it's been wonderful. She adores the teacher, who has an incredible way of interacting with children. I couldn't be happier that Ms. Sciortino hired her this year! To the parent below, how about take an interest in your child as a person and not in pounding math into a 4 year old. The shame is on you, not the teacher.

I drive 15mins just to send my kid to GT class(kinder) and it's seems it's not worth it. Two GT class are so different in academics one is just superior to the other. Since they will be mixed and divided moving into 1st grade I have great concern whether my child will be able to catch up. Ofcourse I had meetings with teacher and it seems this teacher is all sugar talk. So often many materials are not updated and homeworks are given without directions, we(parents) have to exchange messages just to check them. The schoold hired under qualified GT teacher and they are just covering her. Yes, it is her first time teaching GT. This teacher only teached pre-K level kids before hired as Kinder GT class teacher... Shame

Pros: The school principal and assistant principal are very hands on. Either one or both attends all school events and know a lot of the kids by name. They also have a great resource of cluster classes. The kids go to a different specialty everyday! (science, music, art, computers, social studies and media center) It keeps the kids moving. I also attend the PTA meetings and they seem to keep trying to pull more programs INTO the school and not out! GT Review: My child is in the GT class. It is somewhat challenging but usually just very repetitive. They do not take the lessons a step further with enrichment materials. Math is not the focus here. They focus more on reading/writing. If you plan to put your child in for GT be prepared for a lot of writing assignments. I wish it had more balance as a lot of GT kids could benefit from a STEM based program. Overall I am happy with the school. It was actually my 3rd choice but in the end I think this school was the best option for us.

P.S.115 is a very special school. Whenever I have a concern or a question, the Parent Coordinator, Principal or Assistant Principal always respond very quickly. The always put me at ease for my child. I feel very comfortable at P.S.115 and I highly recommend this school. Thank you Mr. Burke for always being there for my child and all the families.

I am so disappointed that up to now what they have in their Math class is about shapes, take note only the Basic shapes! and some baby stuff in ELA/Reading. My child is in the G&T Program!!! She's starting to ask me already why her work was so "babyish" and "boring". "I got more work in my Pre-k". The 4days long weekend that we have right now, No HW, reading log or whatsoever! Calling the admin of PS115, pls help their teacher!

What a great school. As a parent of a child in the G&T program it was difficult at first to choose the right school for him. I am happy to say that my son is doing great. The education they are providing is exceptional. The new science lab, computer lab, music class, art class and the involvement of the teachers and Principal has definitely made a positive impact on my child's education. He thoroughly enjoys school. Lastly, the parents all seem very involved in their child's education and are friendly. I do not regret my choice in school and encourage other G&T parents to consider this amazing program.

This is a wonderful school with great educators from the principal to the janitorial staff to the parent coordinator My children have settled in so well and that is due to the wonderful teachers who really care for all the children. I love the fact in addition to all the core curriculum lessons, they have music lessons in school and an after school violin, viola and cello program for the students

We were placed in the school as part of the Gifted and Talented program. The school as a whole is clean and up kept well. The staff is a great. It is wonderful to see such enthusiasm from the Principal and parent coordinator. The school's score has increased this past year and hope it will continue to over the next years so it will be more competitive within our district.

PS 115 Q is the same school that I graduated from, over 25 years ago and I am proud to send my children here. The principal was my grade school teacher and so I have the confidence that my children will only excel in this loving and nurturing environment. I have first hand experience from the way the Principal taught years ago and so I know that she will only make the school even better than what it is today! The parent coordinator is absolutely one of the most caring and helpful individuals at this school. He always sends updates via email and ensures that parents are very much involved in their children's education. Most of the teachers that I have encountered are very concerned about their students' education and will steer them in the right direction if they need help. It is mainly due to PS115 that I did not move out of the neighborhood. I know that my children will become successful and caring individuals from the knowledge they gain from attending PS115Q!!

My daughter has attended this school since kindergarten and is currently starting second grade. She is a part of the gifted and talented program. My husband and I are both teachers, so not only view things as parents, but as educators. We are beyond pleased with P.S. 115! All of the teachers my daughter has had have been nothing more than wonderful! The school is probably one of the last schools around that values the arts and provides education in the arts, despite budget cuts. There is an afterschool program, right within the school building, that provides additional educational and extracurricular activities. The parent coordinator is helpful and resourceful. The principal takes time to listen to and address parental concerns, and is genuinely a wonderful person. I highly recommend this school!!!

My daughter used to attend this school. The only way they communicate is by yelling. Most of the time the teachers do not have control of the class. The teachers are only focused on the state testing and the students only learn about state testing. They need a severe teacher evaluation.

My daughter use to attended PS 115 Q when she was a student there she was involved in everything. The school always show the parents that they care about the students and the parents. When my daughter needed extra academic help they gave the extra help she needed . It is a wonderful school both Principals and the parent coordinator was awesome. I would recommend this school to anyone.

My child had a horrible experience here...school is overcrowded and could be unsafe. School is so overcrowded some grades have to have their lunch at 10:30 a.m.. Children are not properly supervised during recess time. School promotes a bully-free environment but then teachers and assistants could downplay when the bully is an exceptional student....This does nothing but harm children. School is made up of mostly Indians since it is set in an Indian community. Principal is very nice and personable but there is only so much that can be done due to the amount of students in the building.

I read the two previous comments, I think maybe these parents' ideas or suggestions just won't work for the school that's why the school did not take it, and that doesn't mean they're defensive and go against those parents. My daughter is first year here for pre-K, I talk to staffs and teachers, the way the principal speak, I see nothing wrong. It's just that you have to ask yourself, is your ideas or suggestions reasonable or not? What effort can you put in to work with the school to improve it and it's program(s)? Please, think before you act and rate the school.

Unfortunately the Principle is very disrespectful and dismissive towards parents that do voice their concerns. Any ideas parents offer for improving the school are taken as criticisim by the principle and he reacts in a very defensive manner, quick to point the finger elsewhere instead of acknowledging that certain things need to change! This is no way to improve the school!!

Parents should stop patronizing the school staff. Many have pulled their kids out of the GNT program. One is left with no option but to vent it out in this forum, because you are not heard here.

My son has been attending this school since 2009. The school got a C grade under this year NYC grading system. This might be the lowest grade in the entire district 26. Shame on the school admin and staff! The school should have focused more on learning. If possible, I absolutely want to make a transfer to any district 26 school.

Two of my kids go this school too. But I feel it is one of the best schools the parents can think of for their kids. Yes, the security officer is strict but that comes with the package of the uniform. She is doing her job. The PTA is doing their best. But those who complain- if they can volunteer to do some activity in the PTA, that will strengthen the community. The teachers try to bring out the best from the kids and the kids are appreciated for doing good and advised for doing bad. I really adore our school which has a dedicated Principal, motivating Asst Principal, the untiring parent Co-ordinator and fully invlovedteachers and PTA members. It is time for all those parents who have time, to contribute something to the School and PTA to move it forward.

Two of my children go to this school. I'm not very impressed. So far, my son has had good teachers, but the administration seems to be lacking in personal skills and I find the security guard very rude, treats parents with utter disrespect. That's the first impression all parents and children get of the school. Not good. The PTA tries, but isn't able to motivate the community enough. The principal seems nice enough, but I don't feel like a problem would be taken care of when brought up (because I've brought some up and excuses are made). Technology wise - unreal! Can't email anyone at the school - why?! I feel like this school needs to move into the year 2009. Academically - my son is above average and not much is done about meeting his educational needs.

Both my kids started their primary education at ps115q. My older child is in 8th grade now and still raves about her great teachers at ps115q. My younger child is in 4th grade, and is doing well. My experiences with the teachers at ps115q have been a positive one. The teachers are hardworking, caring, proficient, and interested in the welfare of the children. They remember you and your child by name, and make [an] effort to get to know you. They encourage the children to do their best and motivate them to reach their full potential. I wish ps 115q continues to excel in meeting the needs of the new generation of kids,to prepare them for this millenium.
