I attended this school from pre-k to 8th grade. I graduated from saa a few years ago and I am appalled at these comments. The st.andrews I grew up in taught me to be a charismatic young lady and taught me to respect my peers. Any school you will attend will have its ups and downs and kids will be mean but it was by no means swept under the carpet. The principal handled it making us understand how wrong we were. Not only this but you are extremely prepared for high school. I love st.Andrews and the people I attended school with will forever be my saa family.

Sue "Susan Kennedy" former 2nd grade teach, who then became principal of this so called school, was verbally ABUSIVE to my child, again, and again, and again. This so call 'teacher' has been given full rein at this school, given promotions etc. She is a disgrace to her profession. The truth is what it is, this woman is honored by this school, AND is an ABUSIVE EDUCATOR, she should not be in a school environment. Do you want to BUY into this school with this history.

I am not a disgruntled parent, but a former student, who suffered terrible bullying here, while teachers looked on and did nothing. From what I have heard not much has changed. The test scores that they present are a fraction of the picture, buyer beware, remember to look behind the curtain at this particular school before sending your child here, they can't rewrite their history.

The proof is in the scores! This school scored as the top Catholic School in the Diocese if you don't believe it go to the websites and see the proofI. Not just theirs the city and state sites also! As for those previous reviews it sounds more like a disgruntled parents with an axe to grind. Look at the numbers and educational value of this school my family has sent over ten children through this school and have been nothing but successful. Don't let disgruntled parents cloud your judgement. As they say to be the best you have to beat the best and St. Andrew Avellino is the best.

I've seen kids get picked on because they can't speak right. It happens in the classroom right in front of the teacher. The teacher simply ignores it. The staff are pathetic and only favors the kids whose mothers help out at the school. Public school is better. At least the teachers have some sort of intelligence.

This is a school with a lengthy history of bullying. Years and years of it. The teachers look the other way, therefore send a message of "it is acceptable to treat others this way." Buyer beware, the public schools in the area are a much, much better way to go. What went on and goes on at this school, the public schools would never tolerate. The Catholic School are still to this day sweeping their shameful behavior under the rug.

I absolutely love Saint Andrew Avellino school. My children have attended SAA since Nursery school and each teacher has been wonderful. My children love going to school. In response to the other comments made, the nursery teacher was warm and compassionate. She had a genuine concern for my child's well being and I can guarantee she is a kind and effective teacher. Thank you Saint Andrew Avellino school. I highly recommend SAA to all my friends.

This is a horrible school. The majority of the students there are mean and they pick on innocent victims, and the staff there are just horribly rude. They seem perfunctory in what they do. Do not send your child here unless they want to suffer. By the way, the principal is ignorant in what is happening at her school.

We had our son went to the nursery; he was time out on the first day. We asked "what can we do as parents to help" and Ms Tara reply was "I don't know!!" We couldn't believe our ears. You guess it, our son is no longer with the school and he is progressing and happy and learning every single day in other school. We share the same experience and totally agree the review posted by this parent.

My son is currently in PreK. I cannot believe how much he has learned in the past year. Mrs. Maggy is excellent with the children! Her teaching skills are superb. The school is very clean and nurturing to the students. If you want a home away from home, this is the place to be. The school is very pricey considering the neighboring schools and the fact that they don't provide lunch. I will keep my son in St. Andrews as long as I can afford it, but its definitely not price friendly.

What makes this school a great value in education, discipline, and an enriching environment for my children is the inspirational leadership of the principal that sets the tone for the faculty and administration who work together with the childrens' best interests in mind. The principal is to be commended for actually knowing each and every child by name and being amazingly 'hands-on' in her appproach, being accessible to parents, teachers and very importantly to her students. She puts in incredibly long hours from early morning to late evening as I witness being a parent who uses the heaven-sent afterschool program's facilities which is the saving grace for many a working parent.... The academic standards in effect really challenge my children and I believe is greatly preparing them for the rigors of a academically challenging HS where I hope they will attend.

St. Andrew Avellino is a gem in the sea of mediocrity. The faculty and administration is exceptional in how my child's educational goals are being formed. The school environment embraces the diversity of the community. The classroom teachers are sensitive to each child's uniqueness. The Principal, a former teacher in the school, knows every child in the school by name, grade, and interests. The computer program is complete with site safety features. The creativity that is developed and nourished through the art program is second to no other program in the City. The music appreiciation, chorus and instrumental program rounds out my child's sucesses. The aftercare program is a life saver for working parents. St. Andrew Avellino School prepares children to be come contributing members of thier community.

My daughter was a transfer student to St. Andrew's during the seventh grade last year, and she immediately felt at home. The principal was very friendly and energetic, and the students were very welcoming. The teachers there are excellent and very patient. The afterschool activities are wonderful for the student to get involved more. I would highly recommend this school for any child, no matter the age.

With a child in 7th grade and two high schoolers that graduated from St. Andrew Avellino, I highly recommend this extraordinary school. One of the best things about it is the priciple. You know that your children will be treated as if they were at home with you. She is highly compassionate and caring, and knows every child and parent in the school by name. Each teacher has thier own special touch to add to a marvelous mixture of a nurturing environment.

My child just completed Kindergarten and feel that he is prepared for 1st Grade due to the wonderful teacher he had. The school has a computer program, art program and music program. They also have an oratorical program beginning in Kindergarten which is great because it provides an opportunity for the children to become comfortable with speaking in front of groups. The school has an annual Art Fair which displays the childrens' amazing art work. They have an afterschool program that is very popular. The school has a Mothers' Club, Fathers' Guild and a Parent-Faculty Organization. Extracurricular activities include a Chess Club, CYO Basketball, Baseball, Track and Instructional Basketball.

The academic standards of St. Andrew Avellino are high and impressive. The text books have been updated since the standards were raised in the past two years. The material in the books prepare the children for the state exams. My child is assigned homework every night in different subjects. Homework is always assigned for reading and math every night which I find important because it reinforces what has been taught for the day. Most of the children graduating are attending catholic high schools with high academic standards. The disciplne and respect are a priority which is needed nowadays. The teachers are highly qualified and available to work with the parents. The principal knows the children by name. She is loving and commited to the children. What a true leader! The children are happy to be part of the school because they are treated with respect in a family type atmosphere.
