This school has very educated students and fun curriculums for the students to socialize with people
My son loves this school. He is doing great and loves school. I'm a happy parent. I'm hoping my daughter gains admission next year.
Wonderful school. Very diverse, teacher are all dedicated, caring, and well qualified, the prinicipal a stickler for the rules, but she has a clear goal and works 100% towards to it, and she has her staff completely behind her. The environment is secured and safe, and lends well to calm and good learning environment. School building is very new (10 years I believe) so relatively modern. Located in a great school district with schools such as Queens College, Thompson Harris, and CUNY Law as its neighbors. Being part of Queens College campus has additional benefits such as using the campus resources and facilities. Bus service is great, and the school nurse is wonderful.
WE ARE ONE OF THE FORTUNATE FAMILIES WHO WERE ADMITTED TO PS/IS 499 IN "K". MY SON LOVES IT. HE NEVER WOKE UP NOT WANTING TO GO SCHOOL AND HE ENDS THE SCHOOL DAYS WITH A SMILE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL!!!
To the parent who posted 2/8/2013: I tried the lottery 3 times with my older child--no connections and no success. When I tried the lottery for my 2nd child for kindergarten, she was offered a seat. My older child was waitlisted that year but was eventually offered a seat during the summer. I know a few parents, with no connections or other kids attending the school, whose kids were offered a seat. It is arguably very difficult to get into this school due to its small size (2 classes per grade) and sibling priority. Good luck with trying to find the best education you can for your child! If you are on the waitlist for the school this year and your child was eventually offered a seat, it would be nice for you to update your comment accordingly :-) To All: I am very pleased with the quality of education my kids are receiving at the school. My middle schooler found the transition to be very smooth socially as well. I have also had positive experiences with the principal and vice principal, who have both promptly and professionally addressed all concerns I have had. The PTA is a very active entity and is constantly working to maximize the resources available to students.
I I find it very difficult to understand how only certain students are selected even though it is supposed to be lottery. I have done the lottery several times and my child didn't get in. But, i have a friend that has connections in that school and her daughter was able to get in that school. I guess i don't have the right connections.
Queens College is a great school and all the teachers are lovely. The only thing is, the kids can be a bit...mean sometimes. I'm sorry to say that I left on October 3 and I would like to thank my friends: Sophia, Anuar, Anil, Sakeef, and Zae for helping me along the way because I could not have managed without such an awesome group! I would also like to thank my teacher Mr. Kong. Last but not least, I also want to thank my principal, Ms. Jacob for making the school a great place because the school would not be as good without her.
my son was born in 2009 next year will be the time for enroll PK I am think about this school but I don.t know is this school only teaching math science and what else.....
Principal and administration is very involved in developing a learning environment that enriches the academic performance of students.
The teachers are really caring about the kids and pay individual attention to everybody. The school is very welcoming to parent and keep every parent well-informed with what's going on in the school.
The Staff really cares about each child and that is always their priority
Why do you love Queens College School for Math, Science? The diversified community in this school makes it special. Administrators and Teachers work very hard to ensure that the education the children receive super exceeds the minimum requirement.
The teachers and staff are wonderful. They take great pride in their work and they take excellent care of my kids. They are dedicated and attend to each child's needs individually.
This is my daughter's 1st year at this school. I must say that the faculty at this school really seem to care about these students. From the security to the principal. They offer so many opportunities to ensure that your child is academically successful. My daughter was offered the opportunity to attend Queens College on Saturdays, working one on one with a teacher for some extra support. They even have a music program. They keep you abreast as to what is going on via website, telephone, email, and newsletters. Good experience thus far.
At PS/IS 499 my daughter is getting art, music, science and social studies lessons in addition to Math, Reading, Writing and Physical Education. She is also performing on the auditorium stage in some of the assemblies directed by the teachers. Since September 2004 my daughter has been enjoying a brand new building equipped with new computers in every classroom and in the library. She has also been eating breakfast and lunch in a neat and spacious cafeteria with clear glass doors which allow seeing from inside the attractive playground outside. So far, I am satisfied with my daughter s progress in this school. She is very happy with her teacher and classmates. PS/IS 499 has an official website and most of the teachers have e-mail addresses which makes it very easy for me to communicate with them. It also has a parent coordinator, and many parents from different cultural backgrounds are highly involved.
This is a very special school located in Queens College campus. The School's partnership of families, teachers and college faculty will foster a school community where children think broadly, critically, and creatively about their world to build connections among all areas of knowledge. Everyone from Principal, teachers to security guards care about this school and their kids so much. Everyone (student and teacher)in this school is doing his/her best to make it to be the best!
