I have three children in all different grades and this is the worst school they have attended. The staff is terrible, the teachers are very difficult to work with, and the nurse is very incompetent. I had to move because of the way we were treated!

The principal and the teachers are very dedicated to our students, we could not have a better faculty. Our PTSA does a wonderful job to keep enjoyment for our students as well as helping in every way they can. It is a small but tight community and we all care what happens in our school. It is simply the best....

My all of my grandchildren (4)have been students, two graduated, and 2 more will be graduating. Also, our great-grandchild attends. Having come from a suburban, NY area, I am extremely impressed with the level of education, and the performance of both teachers and students. This is a school that should be commended for its dedication to its pupils.

I love the fact that the classes are small and the children get the attention they need. There is also a lot of parent involvement, which is nice to see.

Wonderful sense of community and caring, with teachers who go out of their way to help, parents who support the teachers and students, and students who make it all worthwhile!

Love this school! My son who is in 1st grade was in Shen before Galway, and what a positive change I saw in my son. I can not say enough about Norm Griffen, the principal. Their are a fantastic group of individuals who help this fine school run on a daily basis.

Great school! My daughter recently transferred there and I was nervous, being a seperated father. The principal, Mr. Norm Griffin, was very friendly. I very much like the school so far.

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
