Teacher quality

Parent involvement
The only reason teachers are at the school is to make LuHi a school, otherwise a parent is paying $12,000 for sports. The teachers nor the students take the academics seriously and some of the teachers look, act and sound like they were hired without any degrees whatsoever. Some rely on Khan Academy to teach their classes. When a fire alarm was set off, the students treated it as a joke; they ran around, screamed, and were chaotic. The teachers had absolutely NO IDEA what to do. They didn't know whether to take the students out into the small, enclosed backyard or keep them in the classroom. A student wouldn't even have to do homework to pass his class and get on the Honor Roll. If your child doesn't play sports, especially basketball, none of the staff will even notice he or she is sitting at a desk, they won't show the same attention that they give to an athlete. Lunch is overpriced. From the website, open house and orientation it looks like a great school, but don't be fooled. The staff is all friendly, but will ignore bullying. Bullying is probably a big issue here. Also, thank you to the recent review about the Nov. 21 review being a staff member. That should say a lot.
Don't be fooled by the review written below dated November 21, 2012. That was written by a staff member.
I am thrilled with LuHI as the middle school and high school choice for my three kids. My kids couldn't be more different as people, yet all three feel connected, supported and successful. Perhaps the most impressive trait I have found, is the staff commitment to the children and families who attend. Academics are strong and opportunities exist for advanced placement and personal challenge. The athletics and extracurricular activities are numerous and all three of my children have found their own niche despite different interests. As a parent, I would have to say that the greatest gift LuHi offers to its families, is the commitment to help foster kind, inquisitive and confident young adults. LuHi is a blessing.
I graduated from LuHi a couple of years ago and my social experience was much better than my academic experience. The school is unorganized and lazy and administration does not put priority in fixing problem within the school. I had an issue with a fellow classmate where the cops got involved regarding safety and the school did nothing to alleviate the situation and avoided getting involved entirely. Personaly, I've realized LuHi turns their cheek to the internal problems of the school and are drowning in their incompetencies.
I graduated from LuHi a few years ago. It's an exceptionally welcoming environment and great place to grow, emotionally and academically, during your "awkward" years. I was involved in all types of extracurriculars, and the teachers really inspired me to go beyond the classroom in my learning. It was a fantastic high school experience, and truly prepared me for college, and the working world beyond.
(Continuing)... My parents even agree (more then i do) about this issue. However, the guidance department is great and is more then helpful with everything you need. Some advice - if you plan on sending your kids here, don't let yourself be walked all over by any of the staff. A former parent warned my parents about this the year I first attended - if you have a problem, get it fixed (with anything). You deserve what you're paying for, so demand what you need. Don't think it's okay for them to keep pushing it off - I do know they have a reputation for unorganization (trust me, i had to learn that the hard way through a huge conflict).
My children are graduates of LuHi and have college academic scholarships from two of the finest universities in the country. They attended LuHi middle & high school. The school prepared them to excel in college & retain their sense of social responsibility. Parents are prehaps not as involved with the school because the quality of the staff and administration is excellent.
LuHi is a good Christian school with great teachers and excellent academic opportunities. It is small and personal. The campus is lovely and there will be a new music/Arts wing in 2006/07.
This is a great school. the kids are all family and the teachers are great too. there sports are good using the slogo school work before sports. luhi is a wonderful school for you to send your child to. bid for kids is a great oportunity for the parents to support the kids going to mexico and fundings for the school
Long Island Lutheran is an awsomeschool for kids and for parents. Students get to know the teachers and teachers get to know the students. Some teachers are so very outstanding. They really care. Nothings perfect, but this is close. Everyone works hard and adults set a great example for the kids. Values count. people count. Acadmics count. Its cool to be smart here.
Long Island Lutheran Middle is a great school. The faculty and staff there truely care about each child. An education there is a great investment in your childs future.
two of my children are graduates of Lu Hi, I feel the education was wonderful, the classes were challanging and tests seemed to reflect what the kids 'knew', not what they did not know, Testing went along with teachings in class and homework, Homework was not over bearing, and in most instances was directly related to the days teachings or tomorrows lessons. The students abilities were assessed EARLY in the Lu Hi experience so if they were deemed to get on the AP track, they began accelerating in 7th grade I do feel the athletic dept needs some backing, If your student is not in Basketball, they are considered in 'second class' athletics and the kids resent it. $$ raised at fund raisers is trying to fund other sports to make up for the lack of funding from the athletic program. They really should encourage boys and girls lacrosse programs. I do wish there was more parent envolvement, because the parents I did get to meet that were my kids friends' parents are wonderful people and we still have lasting friendships It really got me to feel like I was part of a Family, not just a school. The principal, and Director of the school really care about EACH student, as do many of the teachers, and the kids became 'repectful friends' with many of the teachers (a daughter of mine still corresponds with one of her teachers after 7 years away from the school and New York!) My advice to you if you are thinking of sending a child to Lu Hi is DO IT ,,,, and then get involved yourself
Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School is a great school where the students can get a great education.
