St. John's is a wonderful school which provides small classes and individualized instruction to meet each student's needs. I have read some of the negative reviews and I totally disagree. I have have found that almost all teachers respond immediately to parent inquiries. The principal Mrs. Chin-Sin is a lovely person and gifted administrator and is always accessible. In addition my twins are receiving a religious education far superior to that taught in other places. I thank God my husband and I have the resources to afford this school. What a blessing it is for them and for us. Submitted by Tara Vigh, parent
There are good and bad things about this school as in any other school. The school is a little small but the curriculum is GREAT. Teachers are nice and the atmosphere is great. The principle is always looking for a way to keep the students safer. It's an okay school.
I also disagree with some negative comments that I have read here. This school is great not only academically but in God's Word which is the most important and best foundation we can give our children. My child is very happy in the school and so am I.
I have to say that I have to disagree with some of the negative comments that I have read here. This is not the place to air out your dirty laundery. My child has attended St. John's for the past four years and I am very pleased by the responsiveness of the teachers and the Principal. They are doing a great job. Sometimes people are quick to put blame, point fingers, for there own failures in not taking care of thier children responsibilities. Rather than taking an active role in a child's learning, progress, could it be that they were too busy with thier own affairs. Parents, this site maye helpful in some cases, but remember at the end of the day that is your own child. I am very pleased by the saftery of environment. Small class sizes, especially when you hear about overcrowding in other schools.
If your looking for a warm and family oriented environment do not send your child, and the principal is very good to ask money . Too many kids in the same classroom, the teacher does not have someone to help them out, dont check the kids homework. I dont recomend you this school at all...
Our son was transferred mid year and honestly we wish we would have know about this school sooner. Our son's always excelled academicly, however we've always had to be on top of him. Not anymore, he's more eager to learn and less apprehensive toward his studies. THANKS TO ST. JOHN'S TEACHERS & PRINCIPAL MRS. CHIN-SINN.
My child is now a high school senior. In retrospect, I should have never sent her here. The teacher turnover is high. The teaching of math leaves something to be desire. Whilte a 90 student in everything else, she has barely gotten by in math. the principal needs to delegate and not try and run every aspect of the school. She will not take suggestions from parents, either. My child would have been better off in a public school gifted program
My sone and daughter hav been in the school for the past six years and I have tos ay that the teachers have been great. The principal has been great. To all of the teachers and principal at St. John's I believe you are doing a great job thank you for teaching my child Christian values. One Happy and Proud parent.
I had my son transferred here this year. I never seen him so motivated and eager to do his academic work. I find the teacher to be very involved and helpful. She was willing to meet with meet at the earliest convenience. I highly recommend it, if your looking for a warm and family oriented environment.
I was a formter student and now have my child enrolled in St. John's. This is definitely home for me and my family. The teacher's are very supportive, and the Principal has been the best that I have seen. I drop my child off every day knowing that everyting is going to be o.k.
This school is poorly run, with very high turn over. It seems that the teachers are micro-managed by the principal. There are better school options out there- avoid this school.
My child was baptized Lutheran, and as such the intention was to send him to a Lutheran school. St. John's however is more in tune to a 'born again christian', or non-denominational faith. I find that the personal agenda of the principal is often the focus. Especially with school memos and school plays or assemblies. I'm just releived that I found a much better school for my children to attend. PARENTS-I recommend taking the negative reviews seriously.
Greatly disappointed with the Academics speaking as parent whose child has been in Pre-K and now 2nd grade. Teacher turnover rate is like a revolving door for the early grades. Some teachers like 7th Science teacher is great. Grade are great they try very hard. The desire for the teachers to teach seem to be lacking something.
My son has been enrolled in this school since September of 2002. If you are looking for a good Christain education, this is the place to send your child. I have two sons enrolled in St. John's, and the education is above the normal standards. The principal Mrs. Chin-Sinn is very loving and caring, she treats all of the students as if they were her own children. The teachers and staff are very loving and caring as well. They work very hard with each student to make sure they succeed.
I had the privilege of working as the Resource Room teacher at St. John s in the spring and fall of 2004. My departure was due to a move out of state. My work with Lutheran schools spanned 13 years as an administrator and college professor. At St. John s I had the unique position of interacting with all the teachers, the principal and many parents. The teachers are among the most caring and dedicated I have seen. The principal Mrs. Chin-Sinn s door is always open to children, teachers and parents. Many teachers are enrolled in graduate courses and all attend teacher in-service opportunities as they arise. The parents I encountered were expected a school were Christian, dedicated teachers and the principal lovingly disciplined their children. In a world where high standards are often not practiced these parents laud the faculty for continuing the work they began at home with their children.
I have read quite the few reveiws on this school. Let met tell you this, my child is also in the third grade and she is doing very well.I had a problem with the Catholic Schools back in 2002-2003 school year. She has a slight learning disability and no one in the Catholic school or diocese would even consider talking to me. When my child started St. John's the principal assured me that she could be brought up to grade level in one summer and one school year. I allowed for my daughters sake to be left back but I never had to look back. If the principal Mrs. Chin-Sinn says she is going to fix a problem it does get done. Some people it seems are just a little impatient. If I did that my daughter would never be doing as well as she is. Thank you St. John's!
My child came into this school from a public school failing. They helped my child go from failing his classes to passing with a B average by the end of the year. The love the principal and the teahcers showed my child helped change my son for the better. His basketball & softball coach encouraged him a lot to want to do better. This school was life's God sent gift to me and my family. Thank you Saint John's.
My son has been enrolled in this school since September 2001, I personally have never been more pleased with the quality of education he is receiving. He is reading well above his grade level and his math skills are excellent. The principal is one of the most loving and caring women ever put on this earth. She has a heart of gold and works out all situations to the benefit of the children she guides.I believe the teaching staff is fully qualified and they are very in tune with the grades they teach. This school is a loving safe environment and anyone who thinks different is entitled to their opinion but they are greatly misled.I would highly recommend sending your children here for a well rounded Christian education.
I think that st.Jonhs luthern school in glendale is a very unique and exceptional school. I am a graduate of this school and my child has been attending the school for the last 6 years. My child is now in 3rd grade and to my opinion he is above grade level. This school has a loving and devoted christian enviroment. I have read some of the reviews and was very disappointed that these select few parents who are also parents in my sons class feels this way about such a devine school. We all have to remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and in every school there are trouble makers and this is the devil at work. We all need to pray and cast out all these negative people. Overall we all know that it is hard to please everyone. Mrs. Chin-sinn is a god sent individual.
As a teacher at St John, I must say that we strive to be a guiding force for the students. As with any kind of business, there are varying personalities. At St. John's we try to work together as a team, utilizing everyone's strenghts. Just as teachers have to adjust each new school year to their new students, so parents have to adjust to different teachers and teaching styles. St. John's primary concern is always the children, and I am glad to be a part of such a caring and dedicated organization.
