Front office is horrible. The secretaries are rude and the principal is condescending. Great specials teachers (gym, music, art), but classes are too crowded.
The principle is extremely difficult to deal with. Communication is extremely poor. I would recommend finding a different school. The teachers are under a lot of pressure and it is systemic of the problem in leadership under the principles direction.
As the parent of a special needs child, I was concerned that there was only school in the district that a program that would be appropriate for my son. Since my son has started at Lee Avenue School, I have seen such a positive change in him. His speech, his understanding of concepts has improved so much in a short period of time. I am truly greatful to the wonderful teachers, assistants and the principle for an amazing program.
If you have a special needs child this is the building to be in, the principal has a special place in her heart for the special ed children, but if you have a bright child there is no enrichment. The school will only test children for remediation not enrichment. Other buildings in the district give enrichment when needed. Lee Avenue parents of gifted children are told to enrich your child at home and get your own work. The bright students finish their work and then are given busy work
Principle is terrible. It is time for a change. The class sizes need to be addressed accordingly. PTA suffers because of the principle. There is no accountability.
Overall the teachers are wonderful and the music program is outstanding. However there are problems. We are consistently ranked at or near the bottom of the 7 elementary schools in the district according to the annual school report card. The principal does not even acknowledge this as a problem and takes no responsibility for it. Little effort has been made to improve this. Great attention is paid to the special needs students which effects the quality of the education that the mainstream average students are getting and little or no supplemental programs are offered to the high achievers. The principal is responsible for most of the faults here and should resign. She is very difficult to deal with. Never looks you in the eye and treats the parents as a nuisance rather than a resource.
Lee Avenue school is outstanding. We have excellent teachers in music with fantastic personalities. The gym teachers inspire us to never give up.Also that we should try the hardest we can without comparing eachother. The teachers are marvelous. And they are doing their very best and they're disciplining the children on good circumstances. But I would like to have a little more veiwer interventions from the teachers at recess to make sure every student is not hurt and the ither students arent using inapropriate behavior and acts.Other than that everything is wonderful.
Lee Avenue has some wonderful teacher. I think most of the teachers are great. some are not and some give to much home for the kids to do in one night. The music program is one of the best around. There are too many kids to one teacher so we could use small class sizes. We also need someone watching out for the kids at lunch and at rec time. alot goes on unseen by the teachers watching the kids. Better supervision and smaller class size is a must. Keep up the good work on the music program.
Amazing musical programs, simply fantastic.
