Excellent teachers Strong principal/school leadership Challenging academic programs This school, (i am going to right now) is amazing, the entire ditrict is! I love how the teachers stay after almost everday to help students get grades up, there are a bunch of extra curricular activities, like book club, nordic ski club, lego club, shess club and millions of others i can't think of but this is an amazing district we have an awesome enviorment for teens, and the principle and techers interact with the students and parents than most schools.

I feel very lucky to live in this school district. It is a district which welcomes all stakeholders to get involved in decision making. The administration values communication, is open to parent perspectives and is focused on 21st century learning and preparing our children for the future. I have a high schooler, middle schooler and elementary age child. We've been in every school in this district and they are all great!

The school district is awesome!!! My kids are going into second and third grade this fall. Couldn't have picked a better district! What a great mix of kids and families.

This entire school district is spiraling downwards. There has recently been a mass change in the administration which could go both ways. The new superintendent is in no way better than the previous. There is a massive drug problem that goes ignored, more and more students are engaging in dangerous behavior, the guidance offices are a joke and tax money is being spent unwisely. The teachers are highly underpaid and have been dwindling in quality for years. Basically, HF-L is any over-taxed, over-politicized suburb district.

I love this school. The new principal is terrific. My child has a lot of support ensuring his success! He is has been on honor roll since he began here. The school is modern in it's parent/home communication. There are a lot of activities/clubs. The kids in our district are like family.

I have lived in many different districts and HFL is by far the best I have experienced.

I am very pleased with this schools work. Almost every one if the childeren there get there work done. I know by coming into this school. I think that no one should be dissapointed with this school it is in one of the highest rankings of schools in the district. From experience the teachers work their hardest to get the children ready for exams or test's. All of the schools in HF-L have very nice buildings and surroundings for the students.

Overall, we are disappointed in the quality of the teachers, especially given the high school taxes. The teachers pressure you into drugging your child, instead of the teacher working harder and trying different strategies to reach these kids. Also, we have seen a lot of new teachers, and other teachers get pregnant and leave mid-year. This is pretty disruptive to grades 5 and below. Of course there are some good teachers too, but again - overall, we have not been impressed... The buildings are nice, and they have a large sports field, but that is not a very important aspect of a school to us.

I was not displeased with the Middle School under our Superintendent and her Board snuck in (without letting the community know) laptops for each and every 6th, 7th and 8th grader. This will mean even higher taxes for us. Eventually, your children will be reading and doing all of their writing on a computer. No more books or paper needed. I was happy, but when this program is fully implemented, they are going to do a lot of damage. I will need to look into other alternatives for my incoming 6th grader but with the taxes I'm paying, can't afford private schools. We'll have to pack up and move. Just watch the Superintendent and her Board (not the taxpayers). They're sneaky and do what they want. Good luck.

Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
