Even though this school may not be the perfect fit for my child (few Sports) it has something that few other schools may have. May son has learned how to be tolerant , compassionate and a leader. My child knows students from grades k-12, and is treated with kindness and respect. As a single child this school gives my child a sense of a large extended family. My son is in 2nd grade and this kindergarten-first grade teacher, John was a master educator. An artist in his field. His current teacher Daniella is so dedicated and committed to real learning . The teachers at this school work above and beyond their work hours. The teachers certainly put the current anti-teacher viewpoints to shame. They CARE about the children as total human beings not just test scores.
I am very dissapointed with the school. The Staff is very unprofessional. The teachers doesn't know how to deal with kids with disabilities. It's a total disaster. I totally regreat the day my kid went to this school.Going to change school. Not recommended.
I don't know much about this school,as a grandmother, i had submitted two applications we moved from brentwood long island so he could attend this school, we moved 15minutes by car from this school, and my grandson was not accepted,I was angry and still am, he now attends IS61 Leonardo De Vinci, He smart so he will do good no matter what school he attends, but this was the school we so much wanted for him. maybe next year. the grandmother.
We have been very happy to have our son at TRCS for 5 years since kinder. Our son has been learning actively not just to be told what to do by following instructions. To do so, it may take some extra time, but I believe it is a real learning, not just memorizing to raise test score. We strongly appreciate teachers hard work, patience and understanding us being a bilingual family. Submitted by a parent
I applied for my son to enter in ninth grade and was happy to hear that he was accepted, hoping that the small class size would allow for more individualized attention from the teachers to help my son. He's very bright but very active and unfocused. After a few months in this school, I realized this school does not live up to its name. The teachers were unprofessional in their behavior toward him. As for the administration: called and called and only got bounced around. The general staff was very difficult to deal with, except for a very, very, few lot of dedicated teachers. I was greatly dissapointed with this school and completely regret sending my son here.
i like that my child loves to go school and enjoys learning there and theres plenty of activities to keep them involved we happy to have the chance to have a child there
After hearing and reading about this charter school, I applied for my son to enter kindegarten. After a few months in this school, I realized all the great praise were all straight up lies. The teachers were unproffesional with no experience. My son had was consistently going over the the simple ABC's for the entire year and was not challenged at all. As for the administration, they were very discrimatory and I was not the only parent who was very much concered on what was going on in this school. More importantly if you made a call to any member in the office, the call went unanswered and unreturned. The staff was impossible to deal with and I was immensly dissapointed with this school. I trust and hope that by my review you decide to avoid at all costs the Renassiance Charter School.
I disagree strongly with the apparently disgruntled parent who characterizes the TRCS teachers as harsh and mean and who says they don't offer helpful instruction. My high school son has attended TRCS since kindergarten, and he's been offered a wonderful education by dedicated TRCS teachers all along the way. Many high school teachers work during lunch and stay after school to help students, and I do not concur that students who achieve high test scores are the only ones valued: my son is learning disabled and classified as having ADHD, and his teachers have been instrumental in helping him be a well-rounded person. The TRCS staff who have a background in special education are highly trained in Schools Attuned, in Wilson Reading System, and they are dedicated to helping special ed. students self-advocate. I strongly doubt that my son would have received the same level of help at our zoned school.
TRCS calls itself progressive but it is not. The teachers are quite harsh. The teachers expect students to learn on their own; they don't 'teach'. The students are given homework with little instruction or guidance and then are punished if they do it incorrectly. Homework is rarely graded; my child almost never receives helpful feedback. The school only values kids who achieve high test scores with ease. Children who need help are treated very badly. There are two or three dedicated teachers but many instructors are mean.
I'm very happy with the School My Doughter is in second grade and she learned a lot from their teachers (John & Silvia),all the kids are very polite. Also I read the school exced the standards for the NYC education programs. i highly recomend the TRCS
