This is a good school. offer honor programs as well as good academic preparation. My daughter went to this school and there is a safety environment and good teachers.

Dangerous environment for children, would not reccomend a child to come to the school at all.

This was a great school! The class sizes were big and the school was small, but that is to be expected from a NYCDOE public school. The academics were challenging enough and the teachers were kind and supportive. The honor's class probably received a bit more attention, but the entire school was looked after very well. The student body and staff is extremely diverse and it is a great place to be for middle school because it not only takes a child out of elementary school, but preps them for high school as well. To the person who said the breakfast and lunch programs need to be cut, I completely disagree. More than half of the students rely on the school food. Some parents are extremely busy and don't have time to pack a proper nutritious lunch or perhaps the students aren't able to get breakfast at home. Public schools foster children of all demographics and financial backgrounds.

Most of my classmates went to this school and I have watched them become corrupted, but I have been unable to do anything about it. The staff is good, and this school is high tech, but they have not been able to instill good values into their students.
the worst experience so far. HELP they have done 0 for a very good student. the administratic=ve part is the worst. please dont send your kid here not at all.

This is our first year at IS230 and there's definitely good and bad. I've been happy with the teachers, but incredibly unhappy with the administration except for one wonderful assistant principal. I'm hoping we've gotten through the worst of it now that they know I am willing to stand up for my child. All parents at the school need to do the same.

This school lacks everything you need in a middle school. The staff is not supportive. Although the location is very nice, the school does need some change. My daughter took the eighth grade science test and the science teacher was no help at all. He did not review for the test and enforced his rules more than teaching the kids for the science test

During orientation of my child's first year at IS230, the Principal offered a wishy-washy presentation stating that homework isn't required as what goes on in class is most important. That's when the red flag went up in my head ... the months ahead proved to be frustrating when calls to teachers were unanswered, surprise report cards markings (due to lax progress report policy where I never knew until it was too late for my child to improvement), their website had major potential (although 1/5 of the teachers participated) when the BOE pulled it. Otherwise the diversity of the student body is worldly and wonderful and most teachers give a hoot (although, apparently, their hands are tied due to lack of leadership from the administration). My advice: the funding is there - so use it logically - get rid of free unhealthy breakfast & lunch programs. That's a parent's responsibility!

This school is not as good as it advertises. Discipline is often lax, and the academics uneven. The after school programs leave much to be desired. The school insisted vehemently that all students were required to wear uniforms, and I dutifully shelled out over 200.00 dollars for the stenciled polo shirts, skirts, sweater, and gym uniform. But within a couple of months I was arguing with my daughter on a daily basis because 'no one at school wears it'. Most students wore hoodies, jeans, sweat pants way down their hips, and halter tops by spring. The musical program that had been heavily advertised turned out to be incompatible with ESL, which many of the children at 230 need, my own child included. One of the harried teachers I spoke to had to deal with children from two different grades and widely different abilities in a single classroom.

This school is alright...but the academis are uneven. The only academis that are good are law and government and business and financevThe other academies get the left over stuff and honors classes barely get any trips.

It's a great school. All of my teachers are nice. It lacks because it doesn't have an area to play outside.

This school is a great school but clearly the principal that is currently in charge needs to bring order. for example the kids should have a lunch period with thier own grade beacause i belive she can stop most school problems that way. The older kids would not take advantage of the yonger kids.
