glebe st school is a welcoming, nuturing and fun place to learn, with excellent leadership and wonderful teachers!
Glebe Street Elementary is quite excellent. Although formerly the school has had a struggle to overcome the stigma of being the 'wealthy' school, or 'snobby' school, I find it to be very different within the last several years under the direction of the new principal. He is charismatic, competent, thoughtful, treats all stakeholders with respect, and has turned the school around into one that fosters excellent character in students and staff and parents alike. State scores have risen very well within the last four years. Extra-curricular opportunities are improved, as is student engagement. One feels the difference when they enter Glebe's doors above any other school district researched.
Like any other school, Glebe Street classroom quality is dictated by the individual teacher. In my experience, roughly one half of the staff are personally involved in the teaching process and truly devote themselves to the welfare of their students. The new principal has greatly raised the bar, as compared to the uninvolved interim principals from last year. He is concerned, involved, and sees the education of the students as a personal responsibility, as well as their social and emotional wellbeing.
My son is starting the 3rd grade this year. Overall, I would rate the school above average however the board has had a hard time keeping Principals at the school. This concerns me as policies at the school change with each new administration. In addition, the new Principal, although he appeared warm to the students, was very indifferent towards the parents that were there when I was dropping off my son. I am not impressed with what I have seen so far. I certainly hope it improves in the days and weeks to come.
Last summer when our family moved to Johnstown we were first introduced to the Glebe St. School community. We couldn't be happier with my 6th grade daughter's school experiences at Glebe this year. Our principal is an outstanding leader- energetic, innovative and very well-respected among parents, staff and students. From the first day, my daughter was welcomed by a very friendly, caring and open-minded school community. My daughter speaks very highly of her teachers, has many new friends and loves the academics- even subjects that she hadn't liked much in the past. The PTA, teaching staff and administration work especially hard to provide a large variety of special extra-curricular opportunities for our students. Glebe street school has the flexibility and closeness of a small, traditional, neighborhood school. At the same time, as part of the Greater Johnstown School District, Glebe offers a full spectrum of opportunities for students in all areas- academics, sports, the arts and social development. - Kathryn Quoi
Glebe Street School's principal is wonderful, the teachers are excellent, and the atmosphere is just great. I wouldn't want my child to go anywhere else.
