Updated review.... I am the former coach and a parent of the Lansing School District and reported that they had cleaned up in the athletic office[2 yrs. ago] and the school was heading to a much better place. That has changed again and the politics are stronger than ever and I have been here since 1980's........teaching is excellent/sports have fallen a bit/I certainly would think twice about attending

It's a small school, yes, but easily better than my current school (dayton high in nevada. DON'T GO THERE), or any other one, for that matter. I still remember my time in Lansing; the students were friendly and disciplined, and the teachers loved what they did and did it well.

I am a parent/coach in this district and since they[the district] have cleaned house in both the athletic dept.and some administrative positions this past year. Lansing could be heading to a better place. Now with 'tweeking' of some of the coaching staffs sportsmanship and ethics issues- Lansing will be the BEST!

As a college professor who has one child graduated from Lansing and others still in the HS, I can't say enough good about the school. It's not perfect; no place is. Lansing is a small town and nearly all white, so there are some unfortunate pockets of racism and small-mindedness. There were several years of rancorous Board-Superintendent problems; but that now seems behind us with a strong new Superintendent, a long-time resident as HS principal, and some Board turnover. But look past all that at results. The extracurriculars are first-rate: art, drama, music, a wide range of sports, community service, etc. Lansing teams and groups do exceptionally well. And the academics are very strong, especially in social sciences, french, music, art and biology. A very high proportion of Lansing graduates go on to college, with a large group heading off to Ivy League or Ivy-caliber colleges and universities. They do well.

Once off to college, both of my children were amazed at how far advanced they were compared to kids coming from other schools. Great Job Lansing !

The schools have bad teachers, worse teaching styles and even worse discipline methods. They do not attempt to prepare kids to go to college, only to graduate high school. As someone who has moved out of the area I can tell you that Lansing is a mong the worst my kids have ever attended ( they have been to over six). Their sports are decent but many of the coaches have no fun coaching, they do not respect the kids and the kids do not respect them.

The sports programs of Lansing High School are some of the best in the area. Lansing excels in soccer, foot ball, and most of all swimming. Lansing has a great art program, with many diffrent things for students to try, and discover. Lansing's drama department is also top of the line, which puts on wonderful musicals every year. Parental involvment is completly optional, however for those who want to get involved, Lansing is extreamly open to new ideas and suggestions by parents. A new program called CASS has recently been developed it allows Lansing to reduce bulling with kids as young as secound grade. This allows Lansing to be one of the safest and healtiest school in the area. CASS is a program supported by staff, parents, and students.

Lansing has always provided a great number of opportunities in both school programs and extracurricular activities. For the accelerated learner, there are many honors classes and also a number of AP courses avaiable which is surprising for such a small school district. The teachers are well qualified and foster mentoring relationships with the students. From a first hand perspective, I felt prepared for college and a world outside of Lansing through the education and learning opportunities i was given. The test scores are always on top and this is a school distict that wants well rounded individuals.

In this region, Lansing is definetly top notch. Not only do they have great staff and high academic standards, but they provide many great extra activities. This school really prepares your child for a college future.
