Nate Perry Elementary is a wonderful school with very dedicated teachers and staff that are definitely looking out for the interest of the children they teach. We have 3 boys in this school, 2 of which have IEP's. The school has worked diligently to make sure that our children are taught in a way that helps them learn and grow despite their challenges. We read the school ratings before we moved into the district and were nervous because some of them were not very high, however after being at this school for 3 years we have been exceedingly happy with the school and with our children's education. The best thing to do is check it out for yourself. Once you are in the building, speaking with the staff and seeing things in action you will see what I am referring to. It's and excellent school.

My kids really like Nate Perry Elementary School. And as a physician who is licensed by the New York State Education Department I deeply appreciate good teachers and administrators who go a step above just doing their job well to help kids enjoy their education. And so I think Nate Perry Elementary School deserves this $20,000 prize!

I sadly have to agree with the last two posts made recently. In my opinion this is the worst school within the Liverpool NY school district. Friends and acquaintances who teach and attend the other schools within this district and do not have the problems NPE has. The teachers seem to be totally out of touch with the parents at this school. Notice I said at 'this school'? that is because you feel far from welcome here and you are surely not made to feel like it is your child's school. Sadly I am anxious for my children to be finished with Nate Perry school and I am afraid they got less of an education than they would of at another of the Liverpool schools.

When parents call on local advocates and they can guess what school your child goes to... there is a problem! This school does not have the best interests of the children who go there in mind, and could really work on a family centered approach to special education. My child is being discriminated against at this school and school district.

This school couldn't be any worse. The staff are always looking out for themselves and not the best interest of the child. I have a daughter who goes here and I am definitely looking into other options. The unexperience and the arrogance of the staff do not help promote a ood learning environment.

We love Nate Perry School. We have two sons who attend at Nate Perry. The teachers and staff have been a wonderful support in the education system for the boys. My one son has an IEP and receives extra support time to help him with his education. They assess individaul needs for the kids. They provide family and fun time through out the year. School staff emphasizes on safety. My sons love the teachers. We have been blessed with Nate Perry School.

We now have 2 of our 4 children at NPE and I couldn't be happier. The academic programs are wonderful and the opportunities that my children have for extracurricular activities are as well. The teachers are attentive, well educated and have a true passion for what they do. The parent involvement is outstanding. Mothers and fathers are involved. My children are happy and love learning here and that makes us happy.

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
