My daughter has always been a good child but school has been an issue a few grades before. Since she has been at global leaders, she has been engaged and interested. It is great to ask what she learned in school and she answers with something that i havent heard before. The administration is always accessable. Most of the time its not the principal, but you willbe able to speak to an assiatant principal or dean that will take time to listen to concerns and if neccesary, like one instance i had, will get ms chan, to address the problem. I did not give 5 stars because its only been a year but when she graduates 8th grade, i will be back to give another review.

This is my son's second year in this school and I have to say that I have mixed feelings about it. Academic wise, he's doing better this year than last year. The teachers are willing to provide extra help, for the most part. However, the administrative staff is nothing to brag about. The Principal's leadership isn't good and the Parent Coordinator is extremely rude. To wrap things up, this is my advice. If you are an involved and concerned parent then it's obvious that dealing with kind, welcoming individuals is of big importance. You will not get that at SGL. Now, if you're seeking a school with decent teachers and don't care about school communication, etc, then check the school out as well as touring other schools. Please make it your business to tour other schools and explore your options. There are many.

Overall, it was great school, but discipline issues have become more of a problem in the past year. I also didn't like how my child really didn't study that much history, or have the opportunity for arts and theatre.

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
