Enders Road Elementary School has been a wonder to me as a grandmother as my fourth grader loves to go to school! He gets up in the morning happy and always eager to get on the bus for another wonderful day of learning. Moving from another state to Manlius a few years ago, he was of course nervous and wondered how his school could be as good as the one he left behind. He called me after that first day in school and told me about the wonderful school he's attending and that they assigned a boy to be his side-kick for the entire week so that he would know where to go and what to do. I had never heard about any school being so thoughtful to a new student. Consequently, second grade was a wonderful experience and third grade was even better. Your school has wonderful programs and a great facility for the children to grow not only academically, but socially. The music department should be congratulated as I have seen many concerts in my life but the ones that I get to see at Enders Road Elementary are like Broadway productions. My grandson loves music and I have seen him grow musically, and in self confidence. He said to me; "Grandma, this is the best school ever!"

I would avoid this elementary if you have gifted children- they have a 'one size fits all' mentality, and are not flexible or open to meeting the needs of children who don't fit their curriculum. There are some fantastic teachers who were able to provide some in-class differentiation, but there were some who did not. Admin. have a 'no acceleration' policy, have very limited (few weeks/year) math differentiation. They have a good enrichment program butit is very limited in scope (1 1/2 hrs/week, not all year) and not very selective. There is a heavy emphasis on state test prep, and in some classes a culture of bullying, materialism. Good parental involvement, lots of after-school opportunities for sports, a few for academics. Great music program, though limited to string instruments and fourth graders.

It's fairly early in the year, but so far I can say that Enders Road is unlike any public school we've seen! The teacher and the counselor have worked closely with me (the parent) to see to it that my child feels at ease. They return phone calls promptly, as well as e-mails. I have no doubt that my child will do well here. They even provide weekly counseling for newcomer students. We are newcomers and they have made us feel warmly welcomed! The classes they offer in 4th grade are wonderful and the character building and commuinity theme are always there. The children are kind here as well.

Elbridge Elementary School is a great place for chldren to grow and learn. They have outstanding teachers and a great and very smart priciple. She knows every child by name and she always has new ideas to improve the children's learning environment.

People in the FM area think their schools are the best in the country. I don't see what makes their schools so superior. Good teachers who care are a given, but you have to wonder why Enders Road has such a turnaround of teachers. Test scores are not a reason on where to live.

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2012-2013 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
