School gets negitive feedback from his own community,But honestly school is great my son loves it,reasson for low test scores are parents, an active and supporting parent can keep the students on track.
I am a proud William Floyd Graduate and after May I will have a Juris Doctorate. William Floyd has a hard reputation and unfortunately the most negative feedback it receives stems from its own community. I can honestly tell you that being at Floyd I learned: how to be strong, realized that life does not give you hand outs, and that you have to work HARD. While I do agree that Floyd could trim the fat with respect to some ineffective teachers and overpaid Administrators, which is seen to plague a majority of school districts, this High School is not as bad as people make it out to be. The tools to be successful are there at William Floyd, however it takes an active and supporting parent to keep the students on track and encourage the school to thrive.
I think the school is slacking. I believe letting 65% be passing is just a way to do less and still have the kids pass. My daughter went to a different school only 13 miles away and 70 was passing. She graduated regent honors from that school. This school is a joke I wish I could get my son out of it. I truly don't understand how schools in same state and county could have such different standards. I wish I could move my son to connetquot
I wish the neighborhood was better but the district is ok. I tell my kids to take advantage of all the things the rest of the kids are not taking advantage of - This school offers alot but you have to be involved & take advantage of what is offered.
This school Has a great athletics department and smart students. It's a great place to get an education. But it's the fighting that students get involve in because they want to see what's going on.
In 7 days my freshman year at WF will be over, and already it went too fast. This past year has been the best so far in my life, and it all is because of this wonderful school. The teachers really care about our education and the security guards our safety. Everyone is extremely proud of our championship level sports teams and our award winning music groups. The amount of clubs and other extracurricular activities is astounding and pushes students to do their best. I'm very much looking forward to the next 3 years at this amazing school!
I went to another school freshman year and then william floyd high school from 10th to 12th. I am currently a senior and i love this school. it is far better than anyother school i have been to . We actually have enough text books an a million clubs. there is something for everyone. people say that the violence in this school is horrible when actually its not that bad . overall its a great school
I am in my Jr year at William Floyd and I couldn't imagine being in a better school. The faculty truly cares about what goes on in the building and to the students. There are so many accomplishments for the school to be proud of, like our award winning music department, our amazing football team, our mock trial team and so many others. I feel completely comfortable and safe going to school everyday. It's a shame people try to ruin our schools reputation because I don't think there is anything for us to be ashamed of.
I attended William Floyd this year and i honestly cant think of anywhere else i would have wanted to attend. Unfortunately there were some people that put us down, but when you look at our 3 time undefeated NYS champion football team and our Wind Ensemble that was invited to play at the 2008 summer olympics, not to mention all the other acomplishments we've made, i think most would agree that William floyd was an amazing experience and any student should be proud to attend it.
I attend william floyd high school and I am graduating this year. The past 4 years have been absolutely amazing. Although there are times where people put down our school, it is nothing compared to what students are able to accomplish. For example, our three time champion football team that is ranked number 1 in NY and 20 in the country. Also our nationally ranked music program. This school is much more than some people make it out to be and I am glad that I will be an alumni of William Floyd.
As a former student, I must say I was impressed with the effort the robotics team put forth at the regionals today 03/30/07. The amount of energy and dedication the that goes into this activity for the student's is stupendous. congratulations to the staff and to the student's...Floyd is still one of the Long Islands top schools when you compare price per pupil vs the level of education these kids get...and what a campus!
This school district has made great strides over the past 10 years in providing a great education. Over the past 10 years the administrators of this district have overhauled the education it provides to one of excellance while also refurbishing the buildings and grounds. Reforms have been made and the quality of education provided is great!
My son, is graduating this year and I have nothing but high praise for his experience these past 4 years about WF. He was homeschooled until then. He has had teachers who, for the most part, have been encouraging and understanding. His AP, Mr. Raptis, has been instrumental in my son's success. An assett WF will sorely miss! Thanks to all John's teachers, keep up the good work! My late husband, John, graduated from Floyd in 1978 and I am glad my son will follow in his footsteps.
i attend william floyd school district and what the reviews of august 2003 and february 2004 have posted are totally false, william floyd is a great school, the teaching staff is awesome for most parts and the extracurricular activities are great. the sports at floyd are very strong and have had continuing success, yet if a student doesnt wish to be in sports there is a varitey of clubs and art programs that are very strong, like the orchestra, band and theatre productions which, have been of outstanding quality. discipline wise, there is not much fighting nor violence in school, and most student attending get along great with eachother. william floyd high school is a great place for getting ready to face the world that lay ahead us.
My 3 children all graduated from Floyd. They were very well educated and now have successful lives. My daughter is an integrated physics and chemistry teacher for high school juniors in Del Rio, TX. My son is a Mazda car dealership finance manager in San Antonio, TX. They are both extremely grateful for the education they received at Floyd.
I have attened William Floyd so has my 2 brothers and my sister. We all love this school. The teachers and staff are excellent. All the programs and help offered are the best. My step son attened the school distric and after a few other school districts wm floyd was far the best one. This school district puts the students first no questions asked. The teachers and princpals do what ever is in their power to make sure that the kids suceed. The children are so involved in their education and after school activies. The staff and the children have real school spirit.I don't know how the teachers and staff have time for themselves, between classes, extra help, clubs, sports and fundraisers for the school. Any and all awards that were won by the students and the schools were a result of the teachers and staff there. It is the school of excellence!
I am a graduate of William Floyd High School. I have a sister in 9th grade, another sister in 7th grade, and a brother in 3rd grade. The after school programs and clubs have all three of them very involved in school. The high school has always been a safe place to be, as security guards walk the halls. The teachers are for the most part caring and concerned about their students. Many of the teachers and counselors go the extra mile to help the students. The district is wonderful, as is the school itself. Keep up the good work.
I have one boy graduate, who had the potential to be an 'A' student and was in elementary level but his learning experience slowly went down hill due to negetive support from his peers and some teachers and adminstration. School became a safety concern, violence and drugs became a huge concern. I now have one boy in 10th grade and the same concerns exist. I also have a 7th grader who is experiencing the same experience. This school district seems to more worried about lawsuits than standing for justice for all.
Our art and music program are outrageous and the athletic programs also ranks favorably. The adminstrators are God-sent, doing an excellent job unifying a very large, very diverse school. The only complaint is on the parents behalf and their lack of involvement. The staff is doing all they can, now it is up to the parents to meet them half way.
