Excellent parent involment and attention to students is the goal. This school is working hard to excell in student achievement. The staff seems caring and involved. I think the school as most schools do today spend too much time on state testing scores and not enough on the arts and physical education.
Mineola Middle School is joyful and child-centered. The Principal and Assistant Principal seem to know each of 640 kids by name. Walking through the halls, I am always amazed at how friendly and polite these children are. Attending a MMS poetry reading in the local library, and watching the kids almost knock down their teachers with affection, I thought I was visiting a puppy farm. MMS is academically challenging, and the teachers will stay in the classroom to provide 'lunch lab' so students can receive extra help. The Mineola District's Music Program is absolutely second to none on Long Island. Mineola Middle School's PTA recently received a 2007 National Award of Excellence. We have found this to be a vibrant community with everything one would expect from a small town: homecoming parades, rich traditions, and several generations of alumni. What a nice District in which to live and raise a family!
