VOICE is an excellent school, teachers are caring, parents are involved , we can use more volunteers the school is growing. Mr Headly is great, you ask him a question, or tell him about a concern you have with your child, he resolved the problem quickly. I love the Music , Concerts, book fair, Open Mic night, carvinal, etc. With the limited amount of space we get from P.S 111 the kids adjust fine, I think the Discipline is pretty good.

Can anyone expand on how the 2011-2012 schol year at Voice is so far? after a couple years having some issues. My child was selected on the lottery process for next year K, I am eager to know.

Music program is unparallel to any other public school in the city. The school does need a better handle on discipline and handling children who are more academically advanced. Still, I absolutely love sending my child here and feel so lucky that my child was accepted. The parent assocation has undergone many changes and they are definitely making things better but there is a severa lack of parent involvement especially in the older grades.

While there are some good teachers at Voice, they do have a practice of hiring inexperienced teachers that do not know how to deal with children that struggle academically and socially in the school. They isolate and suspend kindergarteners and 1st graders that they consider torublemakers. Mr. Headley should invest in child development course for some of the teachers so that they will be better equipped to handle these students. That being said, their music curriculum is excellent.

The curriculum is very traditional and still developing. Neatness, order and discipline are often a challenge. Sharing space with PS 111 means we get the left overs. The music program is very good, the music instructors are excellent.

Excellent principal and teachers providing an arts-infused education to a culturally diverse population. The school is small and intimate.

Voice Charter School is a school with a unique vision and approach to young children education. Beside regular curriculum it has an extended program in music, dance and musical knowledge, conducted by professional music teachers. The program is composed such way that makes impression is in a holistic approach to education. Administratively school is very well run and organised. Teachers make very good impression. They are approachable, open for suggestions, take care of the parents and children concerns rather quickly. My son is a Kindergarten student and we are new in this school but so far we are very pleased with it. Voice is a highly recommended school in our area. It was mentioned and recommended by many parents before we applied there. We believe Voice School deserves recognition.

My kids have been going to Voice charter school for a year now. They are thoroughly enjoying their time,as well as,flourishing there. I feel that the level of individual, care and attention given to each student both personally and academically is unbeatable. The teachers are all very good at what they do.This is evident from seeing the progress my kids have made. As well as,seeing how the teachers conduct themselves. They seem to instill a sense of inspiration, therefore the kids want to do well, unbelievable! The Principal has a real passion for education and seems to handle the school very well, with the help of his faculty and staff. He is very approachable and concerned with any need or issue that is brought to his attention. this is truly a school, that I am proud to say, my kids attend.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in science. The results for English language arts and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles and the science results will be added when they are released in the Fall of 2013. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
