Frank McCourt High School, located on the 3rd floor of the former Brandeis High School on Manhattan's Upper West side, is entering its 4th year and will soon have its first graduating class. The school offers its students a full range of clubs and other programs including its renowned art program. As a parent of a 10th grader at the school I have found the teachers and the administration to be responsive and helpful. The PTA is entering its 2nd full year of existence and is already providing the support that one would expect an established PTA to provide to the school and its students.
This a great new school, the teachers are very interesting in help the students to achieves their goals.
The principal and teachers have built an amazing curriculum that integrates related subjects and helps build critical thinking. The teachers are fantastic. It's exciting to be part of a new school.
A great school. A nice community of parents and teachers. An interesting and rigorous curriculum. I am so glad my son got into this high school.
This school is a great community for students because all the staff and students are very welcoming and friendly.
FANTASTIC! This school really challenges kids and helps them achieve their goals! I highly recommend it!
My daughter is in 10 grade at FrankMcCourtHS and she loves it. The teachers are enthusiastic, and she is really inspired and motivated to do well, as College is right around the corner. This is a great school if you are on the UWS. School is relatively small. Metal detectors are NOT a problem. They whiz right through them. I highly recommend it.
My son is a senior at Frank McCourt and will be in the first graduating class. Frank McCourt is a small school, which makes it easy to get individualized attention. Ms. Houlihan in the college office has been wonderful at introducing a variety of schools and options, and at helping kids (and pushing them!) to get their applications ready. My son has had a great experience here. I can only imagine that Frank McCourt will get even better every year.
My daughter will be in the first graduating class 2014 from Frank McCourt HS, Initially my concerns were there would be alot of confusion and misinformation as we all know happens wih new ventures. A big issue for me was the fact Frank McCourt would be housed with a problematic school that was being and has been phase out and had medal detectors, which was a problem for us. with all the things that has happened in our schools.i now see the detectors as a big plus, safety!! However, im please to say that my experince with Frank McCourt HS has been great., As for the staff and curriculum i can say that i am pleased we choose this school, the hands on appraoch and the high expectations required i know we choose a winner! I see only great things and give Frank McCourt H.S. my highest recommendation!
The school is quite amazing. It prepares us for college and for the amount of work we will receive in college. At times, school works can be difficult but it leads us to be a successful student. This school gave me amazing
My daughter is in 11th grade. While admittedly there are some behavior problems at the school, overall is a nice school and because of its size, my daughter has gotten a lot of support and encouragement from most of her teachers. She has blossomed academically.
As a parent of a freshman student, I have been pleasantly surprised at how well this school communicates with parents regarding everything. I almost feel as if I'm back in school. Messages are returned in a timely manner and all of my inquiries have been sufficiently answered.
It is a challenging school. I like that way that they push the kids to think outside the box.
I love that we have an amazing choice of electives in 11th and 12th grades. Students are really involved in shaping the school from being the School Ambassadors to participating in the teachers' hiring process. Having an advisory is both fun and helpful. Challenging upper house courses are offered in a variety of subjects.
This is our first year at Frank McCourt High School and so far I can say that it has been a great experience. I look forward to seeing how the school year goes, but my son seems very happy with his classwork and has made a lot of new friends already. The PTA also seems really involved which I think is key to developing a successful school.
My son just started 9th grade in this school, and I have to say I have never seen him this happy EVER! School environment is great, and the integration of Math and Science makes it very interesting for the students to apply the concept to actual word situations. He was very excited of a school class where they were going to measure the heart beats and compare them as normal and while watching a horror movie scene. He feels secure in his school and had made many friends in the month of school.
no place would give as much attention and care and thought to each student as Frank McCourt does!
I think the school is good but... there are some things regarding this school that make you scratch your head and ask why. First being the principal, she is definitely not approachable and I don't feel she cares about what parents or students concerns are, on the other hand I have had better success with the assistant principal Ms. Marchetti ( I personally think she is the better fit for running the school..just my opinion). Second is the guidance counselors, any time I call they don't seem to know much about my child. Lastly why doesn't anyone pick up the phone there? I can never get anyone on the phone, the main number just goes to a voicemail and calls are never returned.. I think it is a good mix of kids but
Frank McCourt is a wonderful school on the upper west side. The principal, Danielle Salzberg is an amazing educator. The teaching staff is young and terrific. I love the fact that the kids can design their own schedules in 11th and 12th grade.
My son just started 9th grade at Frank McCourt. He loves it and I so far I am very impressed. I had a question and got an immediate email response followed by a phone call from his advisor. The classes are small and my son mad friends in the first week. They have a lot of group projects which forces the kids to get to know each other - and work together - so no one feels left out. The also are part of a terrific website called JumpRope. You can log on everyday and see your child's attendance, grades and homework. I like to be able to know what's going on without being a nag. The are a lot of clubs you can join which take place during school hours. It's just the beginning of the year, will post more as time goes on.
