GOCS in NY Lower East Side is the BEST. I love their merits & demerits system. Teachers know the strength & weaknesses of each students. Tutoring are built into the students schedule. Students get tested 6 to 8 weeks, which give the administration the path where each students are heading. It is like customizing individual needs. In the beginning it is extremely difficult to adjust. Many students dropped out. But there are many remain. Applaud to the parents for working together with their children. Applaud to the students that are the true survivors and success to their futures. Definitely APPLAUD to the teachers and administrators for such hard work, not just a job BUT loving it.

I love GOCS, because my son loves GOCS.Since he began attending this school he has had a greater interest in reading and writing and learning about current events. He s always excelled in Math, but I also see him being challenged to a higher degree.I chose this school for my son, because unlike private schools(btw my son came from a very costly Catholic School) charter schools are paid for by tax dollars and thus free and open to all parents. One of my main concerns in making the switch from Private to Public was knowing that public schools tend to be low on money &teachers but yet high on students, something like 30-40 kids in a classroom.GOCS has a very low teacher to student ratio creating a better learning environment. In addition, they provide their students with tutoring 2x Daily!! This school is also great for students who may have struggled in a rigid public school system due to the Charter Schools new styles of teaching such as the use of Chrome Books in the classrooms and encouragement through the Merit system(yes, the kids don t just get Demerits, but Merits too)!.GOCS promotes not only academic success but enrichment and community service. It is not for the slackers!

Avoid sending your child to this school. The administration runs the school much like jail. Children are given demerits for wearing the wrong socks, for raising their hands in class if they don't feel well. All humanity is taken from the individual child in exchange for a lack luster education. The model for this school was an inner city school that dealt with hard core teens. The school here attracts nice 6th graders from good elementary school in D 1 and 2. Weekly detentions are a form of corporal punishment, children sit for 2 hours, hands in front of them, back straight up, in SMART position, no talking, no moving, no questions. No child deserves to be treated this way. Parents have no voice in the school, as it is a charter.

Oops! We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Public and charter school test scores for most states come from the state Department of Education. The most common reasons we might not have this data are either that not enough students took the test or that the school was recently opened, and its scores have not yet been reported.
