I have two children in this school one in middle school one in high school and I love it...it is one of the best school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. the teachers are great the administration is wonderful and the principal is so dedicated, wouldn't have my kids anywhere else

I would like to say that I love the school my son attends and I love the communication that I have with the teachers and the prinicapl and I like the staff and they always have the best attitude with the parents and they help with the children and help the family with anything we need help with.

Teachers here are very committed. Many come from Ivy League schools and routinely go beyond the call of duty in their teaching and reaching out to kids. Instruction is excellent and creative. Students are known well by their teachers and don't fall through the cracks. Excellent arts program. Jill Herman, former principal, put this school on the map. Very diverse. Great atmosphere. I wish I taught here.

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2012-2013 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.

About the tests

About the tests


In 2011-2012 New York used the New York State Regents Examinations to test high school students in English, math, global history and geography, US history and government, living environment, chemistry, Earth science and physics.
