If you are a good student, someone who earnestly tries to get A's, wants to take honors classes, and do your best, you will get killed at this school with an incredible amount of homework. Stress levels for good students are through the roof. New administration is inundating kids with homework. Most of the students don't care and don't do homework, but the best students--who don't need this amount of homework--are being ground down. Not just honors/AP programs either. Regular classes have a ton of homework too--and AP classes are guaranteed a double load of homework (they brag about this.) Arts programs are good, but the academics kill the time for art, sleep...or anything else in life. Lots of homework over breaks and weekends. The teaching is good, but again, it's been too difficult to appreciate the positives when the homework load is killing. Principal doesn't care that the best students are suffering. Would probably be a better school if the quality of students was better, but too many underachievers (cutting school seems to be a big problem). Sadly, the school could be really good if they would just realize that more homework is not the cure for everything.

School of art and design is the best school I have ever gone to.My whole life includes moving and changing schools from Ny to Florida, to Pennsylvania, and back to Ny. I came there as a 9th grader and now an experienced sophomore. I 'donno what some people say about this school, but it's an artists dream to be taut there.

I am a 7th grader and eager to go to this high school. A lot of studens say they have thrived through the teachers and guidence. I hope I do to, and become the graphic designer I've always wanted to be.

My son attended and graduated from this school with a 92.7 GPA. He is now getting a degree in business even though he worked in Architecture for the 4 years that he attend Art & Design. The teachers worked well with me and the vice principal and all of the dean's were very very helpful and they were very amiable to parents...well, to me! (smile) Does my son still utilize his creative side with his drawing? Of course he does.

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST SCHOOL I HAVE EVER ATTENDED As an 11th grader attending this school here are my pros and cons Pros -Art programs Cons -Many students who smoke pot -The Guidance counselors are a joke. -Filthy school -Graffiti is all over school propety -Out of date text books -Many not all, teachers don't care enough to push all students to keep trying. -Not enough home work. I was once a student who loved art, it was something I looked forward to doing at school when ever I had the chance but this school has sucked all the love I once had for it out. It is sad seeing how immature, rude and unprofessional some of the guidance counselors and teachers in this school can be.

I love Art and Design High School because of their dedication and hard work with our children. They are very encouraging and take the time with the students in showing them how to bring out their artistic gifts. The High School of Art and Design is dedicated and committed to equip all students with what is necessary to be out in the world. The teacher truly care about the children & they education. They are also very helpful to the parents when we need help or any information to help our children. I love how they have different programs for our children and this school provides a safe environment for our children. I could never forget how helpful and hard working are the staffs at this High School.

As a freshman parent I am so happy to see that the teachers care so much about the kids. Art is infused into many subjects which I think helps to show children that art is more than just about drawing.

Ny child is a freshman at Art & Design and so far I am very happy with the school. Her teachers seem to be genuinely interested in her work, and that has kept her interested. She has not mentioned any safety issues and that makes me happy, not to mention the fact that they are captive for lunch- I love it!

I love Art & Design High School because the school allows my daughter to come out of her shell and express herself. In her former schools, she had to wear uniforms and had to look a certain way. She was always quiet and slightly depressed. Now she can express her art through her dressing/styling, as well as on canvas/paper. She is more outgoing now and she laughs a lot! To see my daughter smile just melts my heart. So I thank God for giving my daughter the gift of art, and I thank Art & Design for giving her the opportunity to express that gift.

The H.S. of Art and Design has helped my daughter to further develop her artistic talent. She has self-esteem and confidence in herself and also loves the school. She is presently a senior in the school, we look forward to her attendance at a major Art College in the future. We are very pleased with the educational staff and would highly recommend the school to anyone with a yearning for the art industry.

I went to Art Design, and it is where I felt like I was no longer a outsider. I was always the dreamer, the child that drew in the margin of my notebook. Once I came A&D I was a selected few from all five borough was hand picked to be part of that specialized school. A School of my fellow piers. We had illustration, film, architecture, film and photography students. We would talk about each others work and help one another no matter what the field you were in. It is the only Public School in the city that felt like a community. That was the beginning for me and my love for all art. I am now a photographer and have had shows in galleries and the MOMA.
