I wish it was K-1! I have 2 in G&T. We have had a home at PS166 for 6yrs. We came from a private school(Clarement) and many parents from that pre-school took advantage of the G&T program at PS 166 as well. My children were challenged in a nurturing environment. The highly involved faculty, PTA and other parent involvement was key. I have always felt welcomed in the classroom and would stop in often to drop off projects or participate in a class event (e.g., book publishing party or science fair). The hallways are silent during class time and the kids are relaxed and happy. All of the students were highly motivated and academically competative. The Chess Team is the #1 extracurricular activity regarding participation and competative performance but they also have a great theatre program as well as a track team. The afterschool enrichment is also great bargain with reasonable fees for classes such as Lego Robotics, Cooking, Private Piano lessons, Ping Pong, Math Games, etc.). They are also a "green" school. They have a new reading garden and discussions of a new playgound are happening now. An upgrade in the technology department would be nice. I highly recommend PS166.
I've been very happy with our experience at PS. 166. The Principal is excellent. The teachers have been wonderful. There is a great PTA with high parental involvement. The Parent Coordinator keeps everyone organized and well informed. We're very pleased with our school.
As a parent, I'm a bit shocked that Principal Hand and the teachers received only four stars. It's staggering how professional, kind, and excellent these two categories are.Without the Principal's leadership, the other four categories five stars wouldn't be here.
Excellent school. I am a substitute teacher at the school and always feel welcome here.
The school principal, the teachers, the families are all very committed to making this school a great place!! Terrific g and t program, great chess program. Hands down one of the best schools in the city.
This is a great school. My son is in Kindergarten and he just loves the school and his teachers. It is amazing what he has learned in the past couple of months. He also is given the opportunity twice daily to do what he loves most and that is to draw. The school allows children free time to do what the children are passionate about.
parents teacher and kids, active, innovative, and hungry to learn
PS 166 is an incredible community of Administrators, Teachers, Children, Parents, and Caregivers. It is affiliated with programs in the Community that give the students access to many cultural and educational activities. Our Enrichment Program offers a number of excellent classes and overall the school is a wonderful environment for the children to grow in.
amazing after school programs, wonderful teacgers and steller principal makes PS 166 a public school we love!
PS166 is a uniquely small and personal public school in a beautifully designed building. The faculty staff is dedicated to the kids and the high academical standards. The G&T program stands out thanks to the teachers and the contributions of the parents, and my 1st grader has exploded in knowledge and is excited about her home work and to go to school every day.
