It's a closenit neighborhood school where the children not only learn together, but see each other after school hours. Safety & discipline are main components of the long successful history that the school has enjoyed throughout the years. Music and art are a major part of school day.

As a career educator, this easily the best school in which I have ever worked. The principal and APs are hard-working, have high standards and practice what they preach. The administrators easily work just as hard as the teachers do. The kids are exceptonally well-behaved and the teaching staff is very competent!

Strict and traditional in it's formula for educating the children PS/IS187 is still a caring and warm place where the kids are safe and a good solid education is available. My child is in elementary school. She has had a good year, enjoys her main classroom teacher and is stimulated well in Social Studies, Science, Library, Music, Art - in conjunction with the school's liason with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the school's Dance and Movement Program. (Funded through the Parent's Association). Having friends live locally is a great bonus for after school activities in the park and there is no commute - another big bonus. The school is short on space for playground activities, classes and playspace during winter, but they do their best. They're innovative and try to listen & respond to parent concerns. The PA is active & fundraises extensively, including for the afterschool program.
