This is a great school. Everyone in the building cares about the well being of each child. From custodians to principals, from school aids to teachers, everyone takes time to meet the needs of the students. My son is currently in the third grade and enjoys learning very much. He even comes home practicing the typing skills learned in computer class and the songs learned in music. I love this school.

Excellent teachers and administrators. I went to this school and really love how great it still is. My brother currently attends the fifth grade and it's unbelievable how much effort his teacher puts so that he succeeds. I commend the school and the people who work there for a great job.

This is my older daughter`s first school and she is learing a lot and now she is in 4 grade and my middle one is now staring in the same school as her older sister,this a great school.

I am an alum of this school and now my son is attending. This is a very good school, it shows students the fundamentals they need to succeed. I have seen many people including myself prosper because of this school. The principal i s excellent, the teachers are excellent and even the school aides are excellent.

I love p.s.189 cus everybody in this school will try to do what right for your kids and help the kids what they need to do and learn even more each day.

Programs need improvement. There needs to be more extracurricular activities and as far as parent involvement not many parents get involved. Personally the teachers to date that I have dealt with have been very helpful.

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
