My son and my daughter have attended St. Mark the Evangelist since Pre-K 3. They are now in first and second grade and I have been impressed with the St. Mark the Evangelist faculty and how they are pushing the envelope academically. I'm a public school teacher and I see how the St. Mark the Evangelist faculty have been teaching above the new Common Core Standards before they were implemented. In comparison to public schools, both of my children have been performing one full year to two years above grade level at St. Mark the Evangelist. I'm not only impressed with how the faculty pushes the envelope academically, but my husband and I appreciate the sense of family and community at St. Mark the Evangelist. My children feel loved and safe at school. My husband and I are proud to say that our children attend St. Mark the Evangelist and we would recommend St. Mark the Evangelist to other families that want a faculty that pushes the envelope academically while providing a nurturing environment.

I am more than impressed with St. Mark's! My daughter is in Kindergaten and I cannot praise Mrs. Gordon enough! I am pleased with the curriculum, the staff, and the new principal. Everyone is friendly and warm and my daughter is being taught moral values that we reinforce at home. Even the older students demonstrate manners with both parents and the school staff. I satisfied with my choice to send her here; even after others warned me that I should strongly consider the charter schools. I am glad that I trusted my own instincts.

St. Marks needs to make changes to the curriculumn, some teachers, and most importantly the support staff(teachers aides) alot of them are under qualified and do not know how to interact with the children. Hopefully the new Principal will see these problems and fix them sooner than later.

St. Marks offers a warm and friendly environment for the children to feel loved and secure. My son has been in St. Marks since Pre-3 and he's now in the 6th grade. St. Marks communicates weekly with the parents so you know how your child is doing on an ongoing basis. There is a new Principal who started last year by the name of Mr. Allen and impressed is an understatement of what I ve seen him accomplish in that year. Educationally the school is growing in the right direction. Mr. Allen has partnered up with various organization and brought various extracurricular activities to the school such, as ball-room dancing, piano and chess just to name a few.

There s a real family atmosphere at St. Mark s and parents are welcomed into the school for all sorts of things and if you want to be more involved you can join the parent committee. My daughter s test scores have gone way up, and she (and I) love all the after school activities she can join. Basketball, track, a musical, service club, and she just told me about some mock trial team! And that's just after school... And I m just really happy to have the people who work at St. Mark s involved in my daughters life.

This is the 2nd year my granddaughter will be attending this school she is now in the kindergarden. Her preschool education was outstanding. The teachers are great, they are patient, caring. Her manners, family values were enhanced a great deal. Academically she soared as a pre-schooler, which has made here ready to take on kindergarden. Keep up the good work!
I think the school provides a safe caring environment for children however they lack good teachers. The kindergarten teacher Ms. Gordon is the best, she prepares your child for the higher grades but the teachers in the higher grades do nothing to keep it going. Alot of parents hear about St Marks when they child are about to enter kindergarten. They enroll them for kindergarten and once kindergarten is over they transfer them to other schools. It is known by parents in the neighborhood and beyond that St marks is only good for Kindergarten after that it is downhill.
The teachers are patient and caring. They are very social and in touch with the parents. Communication is never a problem and they are willing to work with you.

Due to the poor quality of public schools in the harlem area, I could not put my child in the district schools. Although this school is located in Harlem, it is private and they provide the basic educational needs. The class sizes are small and orderly. However, I do feel that they could raise the level of academics up, so that these children would be exposed to more than just the basic education. Compared with other non-urban catholic schools, this school is behind academically, but it does surpass the public schools. There are no extracurricular activities that the students can join. Parent involvement is pretty good when it comes to activites and school events. If you want your child to be in a safe environment; and get a basic education, this school is pretty good.

St Marks has one class per grade with about 30 students in a class--1 teacher, 1 assistant. My child began attending St Mark's in kindergarten. Ms Gordon, the kindergarten teacher has a real gift and is absolutely the best teacher I have ever encountered! It is because of her foundation I believe my child is still getting good grades two years later. The school has no parent association and doesn't encourage parent input. I am very pleased with my childs academic ability (especially reading, math, science). The school has a music and art period, but the lack of other extracurricular and organized activities in the afterschool really bothers me.
