The new principal started with a blank canvas and putting in extra time and through many obstacles began creating this magnificent environment for education which is an intricate process. I hope this labor of love and devotion is something children and parents will imitate. In order for this school to get better it must change but it is not just changing it is evolving.

This school has been and still is a wonderful school!!! The leadership and teachers are first rate. The recently retired principal was outstanding. The new principal is an eminently qualified educator who is introducing new ideas and concepts to take the school to new scholastic heights.

St. Brigid is an outstanding academic institution, as an individual that attended public school I feel the quality of education my daughter is receiving supersedes my own in every way. From the individual attention she receives to the plethora of activities she participates in I am very pleased with the school and her growth as a student and social development as a child. It also helps that she loves school so much she cries if she's sick. We love you staff of St. Brigid! Please continue to create a healthy environment for the cultivation of the minds of our youth - and maybe add some more veggies to the lunch menu. Thanks!

St. Brigid School is an excellent school. It challenges its students to excel academically and strives to develop them into responsible, community oriented individuals. The teachers are professional and caring. The new principal is forward thinking and committed to preparing our students for the 21st century by ensuring that the school provides each student with a world class education. Both the teachers and the principal are always available to parents who simply have to make an appointment with our beloved Sister Betty. My advice to everyone is to come visit our school and see for yourself. We have been at St. Brigid for several years and are extremely pleased with the education our son is receiving, as are many of the other families that we know at the school.

I have two children in St. Brigid School (first and sixth grades). Our school is somewhat small. We have all patient and kind teachers, who care deeply for our children's education. They are open to help anyone when simply asked. We have a new, energetic, and understanding principal. I see great changes in our school. As a mother of an engineering student and collegian-to-be, I strongly recommend this safe, family-like (staff and faculty) friendly school.

My son attends Pre-K at St. Brigid's in the East Village and we're so glad we chose this school! We wanted an affordable school with small class size, diverse population, strong academics, and a nuturing environment. St. Brigid's is all that and more. In the middle of a sometimes overwhelmingly big city, St. Brigid's is an oasis. The principal has a great vision for the school and works tirelessly with parents and teachers toward that goal. They foster a real love of learning while instilling strong disciple, values, and a sense of community. I'm grateful to see my son growing stronger each day in mind, body, and spirit - thanks to St. Brigid's. Looking forward to what the coming school will bring!

This is the second year My Pre-K4 daughter has been in St. Brigid School because they have a Pre-K3 program for 3 year olds - impressive. Nap time, free healthy snack, free lunch and a secure environment are some of the perks of this school. Now, she's interested in books her favorite are 'No David', and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. My daughter innocently and so proudly blesses herself and recites the Hail Mary and if that's not enough shes writing her name with great confidence - I love it. She also quotes her teacher and says thing like "oh oh my markers running out of gas I have to put the cap on and refuel", so funny. Today, for example, they learned about when to dial 911. Honestly I was pretty nervous at first but she reassured me that she truly understood the concept that if mommy & daddy are unresponsive and laying on the floor call 911 - precious.

New principal, new teachers, new students and yet a sense of stability. The teachers are awesome and keep in constant communication with me. The PSA (Parent School Association) core team work really hard for FREE for our school. Sister Betty has helped my family in ways that I am eternally grateful for. Nothing in life is perfect but this school is certainly a gem in the city with a great location.

This is the second year my daughter attends St. Brigid and I am beyond pleased with the school, staff & academics. The school has updated their security as well as hired an assistant principal who is an additional blessing to the environment. As in every institution there will always be personality conflicts, some amongst staff, some parents, however, overall I have not been dissapointed with the safety, education, conflict managment and afterschool program. Excellent school, i recommend to any parent.

I transfered my son from a public school to St. Brigid...I am beyond happy when it comes down to my child's current education, he has changed completely, his academic and behavior has improved so much. I give St. Brigid thumbs up for their hard work and keeping the parents involved in their education. No complaints what so ever, the school is clean, everyone is very professional and I cannot wait to until my youngest child attends school. Thank You St. Brigid Staff

My son has been in this school since 1st grade, he is now in 3rd grade. He has excel in is academics. The teachers are all wonderful and the principal is the icing on the cake. The principal has made this school what it is today. What is also important is that the kid s math and reading scores are improving every year. My son loves it here, he looks forward to coming to school, and he gets first and second honors. That makes me happy, because I know I made the right choice. Give St. Brigid a chance; you will be happy you did.

My grandchild attends this school. i pick up and drop office. i must say this school should be religious and practice what they teach. The teachers roam in packs. If you bring up a issue or question a teacher she will take it out on your child. On the door is has a poster that says" Warmth, Friendly, care about children". That is not true!! The principal is not approachable, doesn't listen when a parent talks to her. The principle talks AT YOU when she should talk to you. If you care for you childs education and well being. DO NOT SEND THEM TO THIS SCHOOL.

I honestly regret transfering my child into this school...love the programs offered and the Sr. Teachers who are awesome but the young teachers lack the experience capability that is needed to properly instruct our kids in a productive manner without ripping their spirit and cutting them down when they are in need. When you see a very bright student all of a sudden lacking the ability to learn because they are being ridicule than administration to take a harder look at these instructor. I already see the next grade teacher is not much different from the current grade (3rd) and will not endure another year of this as now due to being outspoken of what was going my child has now been the subject of lack of care from some of the other staff members of this school....this will be my last year at st.Brigid.

I know what the previous review means....i too have been conflicted with serious doubts and will not be considering removing my child at the end of the school year. I love the music programs he art teacher and secretary of the school, but will say my disappointment with administration and the inability to productively guide the young teachers of the school and turn the other way when this group of teachers (which happen to be friends) lack the maturity level to properly guide students w/o crushing their spirits. I have in previous months noticed that when it comes to my child (and can't help to feel because she is mine and I have voice my opinion on certain things we have endured) is now lacking the care and concerned that was once given to her when a tough situation was present and how they always managed to make it work for her, almost as if they were using her to get to me. In the long run its the child they hurt which shows me this is not the school for us.

my son attends this school and i am not happy with the archidioses of new york due to the fact that if your child needs extra help the catholic schools have no extra programs to offer kids who need the extra help. the classes are very small however the teachers are not willing to give your kids any extra attention. most teachers in this school are young and lack the experience necessarry to teach. its not about quantity its quality education that counts. they will give your kids tons of homework ,basically making you the teacher at home. forget about the prior reccommendation to send your kid to our lady of sorrow that school has many issues and they have threatened to close 3 times. they cant even keep a principal. i reccommend send your kids to a public school education, and just take your kid to church on sundays.

Well I did it! I transferred my daughter from ICS to St. Brigids, it was the best decision I could've made. More important when my child heard she would be entering a school under the leadership of Ms. Vincent once again she was ecstatic, the smile and look on her face first day of class as we walked towards the school and Ms. Vincent was in the front welcoming her back under her caring arms was priceless. It's the third day of school and my child is so happy with her, teacher, classmate and the school staff. Ms. Vincent is doing great things with this school, the academic and afterschool program will be offering so much to their students and I am looking forward to having my daughter take part in it. Parents must do their part as well in the academic structure of their children for them to further excel.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.
