My soon has been in Collegiate School since he was in kindergarten. I agree, many of the students do come out egotistical because the school does convince them that they are better than everyone else. However, if a student wants to appreciate the quality education they can receive at this school, they develop into great, extremely smart people.
I disagree with the comment below. This is my first year at Collegiate and I used to go to public school. The reason i left public school is because Collegiate is so much better. Sure some students do not have manners but if you're looking for a school where every single kid has manners you'll be searching your whole life. All the students are very smart and talented. The faculty forms very close relationships with the students making the experience so much better. I applied to Dalton, Poly, Calhoun, and Trinity and trust me Collegiate is just as good and probably better than all of them.
This Sschool is terrible. the children come out of it without manners and respect for others. They come out very egotistical because the faculty forces that the school is the better than everyone elses in their brains. This school is no better than any other school in the United States, it may as well be a public school, which is where I will be moving my son. He will acheive greater things there
Getting into collegiate is itself impossible, but if you get in, you must go. It was the most incredible experience for my son (he is off at yale now) and i wish i had another son so i could send him there. Collegiate has the best of the best, from music, athletics, art, and, of course, academics--and everything about the school screams 'opportunity!' best to take advantage of this incredible community before it is too late.
Collegiate is arguably the top independent boys school in New York City and one of the very best in the nation. The school offers an extraordinary education with particular emphasis on development of intellectual curiosity and service. Collegiate students universally graduate as confident, independent thinkers and leaders. The academically rigorous environment is tempered by tremendous camaraderie, fellowship and teamwork. Collegiate regularly matriculates the great majority of its graduates at the very best colleges and universities.
The school is amazing, if you're not organized or a good student it will be an extremely grueling process but I love the school.
Very academically focused. I have one son who son who attends this school and one who tranferred to Stuy. Colliegate offers a great english and art programs. Offers more courses then my daughters' girls' schools.
Academics at Collegiate are more advanced than the vast majority of NY independent schools. The teachers are caring, extremely knowledgable, and really care about their subjects. In addition, Collegiate kids excell in a variety of sports, including basketball, wrestling, and tennis. Also, the level of music in Collegiate is outstanding, and Collegiate is home to multiple amazing violinists and pianists. Parent involvement is evident, but it is completely unneeded due to the quality of teachers, the community in general, students, academic work, sport levels, and musicality in this truly uncomparable school.
Good student teacher ratio. Caring teachers. Accelerated tuition for students abilities. Good range of extramural activities. Good music centre and sports coaching. Overseas study trip for students. Strong parent teachers association. Well established school.
The single best education in the nation, with the possible exceptions of Andover or Exeter. Not for any student, but if he can handle it there's no better place.
