This is a great school for the pre-K years (this has been my only experience so far). The class sizes are small enough, and the teachers tuned in enough, to allow very comprehensive individualized attention. They are sensitive to the needs of your child and of the family as a whole. All the staff and administrators are friendly and approachable, so much so that it lends a family-like atmosphere to the school. The focus in the first two years is socialization. This is achieved through the use of art, cooking, science, and literature which are all used in a multidimensional way to encourage interaction between children and teachers. My son's confidence has increased dramatically since being a part of Calhoun. They really focus on making sure that each child is comfortable, and secure, which then allows them to excel at their activities.

Emphasis on critical, abstract thinking. Strong research and writing in middle school. Interdisciplinary approach works well. Very small classes and good advisory system--lots of peer support as well. Global, multicultural vision. Excellent gym and food service. Parents low key and very involved.

Calhoun is a wonderful school for younger kids. It is low key and the teachers are very nurturing. Some prospectvie parents complain that the classrooms seem chaotic, but my children are easily able to find their place in the class and are not distracted by others who may be pursuing other activities.

Calhoun has been great for us. Our son is reading and writing in the Pre-K and without the unneeded stress and pressure. A great school for motivated, self-directed kids.

Calhoun is a wonderfully nurturing enviroment in which a child not only builds a solid educational foundation, but also learns how to engage in critical thought and innovative analysis.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
