As a parent of a child currently enrolled at Lower lab I have been very pleased with the program so far and I know that it's the right school for my child. The program and teachers have exceeded my expectations and hopes. The school is nurturing while also challenging. The children are taught social responsibility and awareness. They have been exposed to so many cultural activities around the city. I can't help but feel that we are getting a unique and special experience overall as a family, and I know my child is getting a top-notch education. The principal and assistant principal are undoubtedly leading this school in a great direction.
lab is a very social and close school with great acedemics and amazing teachers. with only two classes per grade you really get to know everyone and there is a very close community.
The Lab is an exceptional school with lots of activities for the kids. With only 2 classes per grade the students really get to know each other and although it is among the best scoring schools in all of NYS, the environment is very warm and friendly. We couldn't be happier at this school.
P.S 77 is a warm, nurturing, academically strong school for your child. The teachers and the parents are the heart of the school. Together with the students it is a fabulous learning community. The students continue to score amongst the highest in the state.
P.S. 77 (Lower Lab School) has been a great influence in my life. It has helped me become more knowledgeable, both academically and socially. If it wasn't for the challenging academics, then I possibly wouldn't have made it into one of the best public middle schools in Manhattan. Now, in 7th grade, I am going to transfer to a private school, because of all the learning I have been taught.
Our child has just completed Kindergarten and we couldn't be happier. She has really enjoyed it while learning a tremendous amount at the same time. We always knew the Lab was a top school but I just checked the 2007 NYS standardized test results and the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades all scored in the top 1% of the state for both english and math and usually scored in the top 0.1%! Our child also learns about science, art, Spanish and music and has many field trips all thanks to a very active PTA.
Lower Lab is probably the best public elementary school in the city. Literacy and math are very strong and Spanish, science and computer class are taught with a hands on lively approach. Last year the fourth graders made an impressive video reportage about their school, filming and interviewing teachers, staff and peers. Graduates are more than ready for Middle School.
Lower Lab is a fantastic place- academically rigorous yet nurturing and community minded. Our kids are well prepared for middle school and have consistently gone on to top-notch high schools (my older daughter is at Bronx Science.) We have wonderful music, art and computer programs. We have a terrific peer mediation program and a student council with the other school we share a building with. We have a huge variety of community building events- fun raisers. We have an extraordinary parent body that works tirelessly to raise funds and help in any way possible to make sure the school has the resources it needs that the DOE will not provide. Parental involvement, both volunteering time and money, is one of the main reasons for the success of this school but at the end of the day, it is the excellence of the teachers.
My son graduated from the Lab in 2002 and it was probably the best elementary school education he could have gotten anywhere in the world
although the class size is large, especially in lower grades, the teachers, and faculty are great as well as the parent body--the academics are good and the art and music programs are good as well
