i think this school isnt that clean and the teachers only pay attention to there favorite students
Great school different approach but very open and friendly atmosphere.
Finally, a high school that actually prepares students for college! The teaching atmosphere is similar to that of a university, but in a way that draws in even those who have lagged behind in the past. Students here are guided into learning how to think critically, and how to solve problems. My daughter went from being on ADD medication and nearly failing, to becoming confidently proficient (and unmedicated!), even in advanced mathematics, which had been her weakest subject. She was accepted (or wait-listed) at every college she applied to, and is now on the Dean's List. The children who succeed here are the ones who are willing to rise to the challenge - and the curriculum IS challenging; no one should go in there thinking it is going to be a country club.
Urban Academy is a small pre-college, in so many aspects. The students are allowed to register for their classes, with assistance from advisors. The courses delve into areas of government and politics, language (Spanish), photography, debate/argument and so much more. Students have opportunities to participate in musical performances and art exhibitions! The principal, Herb Mack, knows every student - as well as their strengths and weaknesses and the students know they can go to him for school matters as well as personal ones. The diversity among the students range from race and ethnicity to income to neighborhood to learning style. It is the school's fair and balanced admission process that ensures that it keeps a well performing balance. It is not enough to have small schools in larger school buildings. More small schools should be formed on the model of Urban Academy, perhaps we would then be so more successful HS students!
This is such a great school, they work totally diffrent than other H.S. The teachers are 120% involved with every single student, they try and make every class fun. Faculty devotes all their time and efforts to the students. It is overall an excellent school. Joseph Valenza
