staff members are rely involved in our children education , they tried to do they best but is our obligation to by part of this effort if we work together big things can happen. Don't forget is the second house for our children and we have to be part of that. God bless you all. Elva.
The revolving door with leadership has done nothing to improve the school. This year's test scores were among the lowest of not just charter schools, but all schools in NYC. The lack of consistency in curriculum, staff, teachers seriously concerns me, and I am looking to pull my child out as quickly as I can.
They fired the teachers with experience and credentials and promoted assistants without certification. They are making up the curriculum as they go.
Harlem Day had really strict rules about fighting. If your kid was in a fist fight they would have been suspended. This school gets better every day.
My son was in a fist fight yesterday and no teacher stopped it. All the kids watched and screamed. There teachers got no experiance and the school keeps changing them and a new teacher is in charge every other month.
My son was punched in the head by another student and there were no consequences for the other student. This school is not safe. We are looking at Promise Academy.
Hi my daughter attebded 4th grade at Harlem Day amd i love her school and teacher ,the teaher helps my daughter excel ,and help her learned to the fullest not but the least to motivated her as well, go HDCS!!!!!!
My son left the school without telling his teachers today and no one knew where he was. Who is in charge?
My son is a student at HDCS. He's in third grade now but has been there since kindergardern I wanna give a high five to all the staff for encouraging my son to strive for excellence. He has really come a long way. Thanx HDCS Fatima Barber
My son attended HDCS in 2007 he entered in the fourth grade. Harlem day has been a great turn around for my son, yes they have changed principals but the learning process has not changed I love the attention my child gets to inprove his academic process. way to go Harlem Day keep moving foward.
My daughter attended kindergarten at Harlem Day and I absolutely love her teachers. They helped my daughter excel by keeping her motivated and interested in learning. The turnover of principals I have learned are not because of the school but because of the district. But even though they switch principals the teachers stay the same. And way to go HDCS! You have kept me happy. I can't wait until my daughter starts first grade.
My child is in the first grade and this is actually her second year, so far I have no problem with the school. She has learned so much and I'am happy that she is able to attend HDCS.
My child is in the third grade and has been in HDCS since kindergarden. The school changes every year and the faculty turnover is very high. The children have to deal with change on a yearly basis, which is confusing for them. While the cirriculum and extra curricular activities are excellent, the way the school operates is very frustrating. Also, it would be to the children and parents benefit if the extended day program started earlier than Oct 1st and ended at 6:00pm as opposed to 5:30.
My daughter just started Kindergarden and so far, I am happy with the school, their curriculum, their attention to student and parent needs. Yes, it has undergone changes in the last few years (I did my research) but to base a childs learning and ridicule the school because it goes through drammatic change is not necessary. I think this year and the years to come will be all for the better. I love this school and am greatful. The PTA is strong too. Way to go HDCS!
If you have the opportunity to go to another school go. This school can't seem to hold on to a principal. My daughter started in sept. 2005 and now may 2007 they are working on their 3rd principal. The school does have a PTA. I can say that my child is learning the work, but the question is at what price? I think that is question we all face here at this school.
