I have three child in this school and for me is the best one I feel like I'm living my kids with some one of my family and this is what make this school one of the best one for me . They have great teacher. Great communications with parent at any time . Excellent .
My daughter is now going into the 3rd grade. My experience in observing the school, teachers and principal is exceptional. They truly are dedicated to the children which is refreshing to see. They are informative with the parents and if anything is wrong you can always go the assistant principal Ms. Ramos who is amazing and resolves things immediately and the staff follows up so you are always in the loop of everything. This is the foundation of our children's future and I am happy to say that my daughter has a great future ahead because of this school and the great staff.
This is my perception base on my recent experience with PS188 from a parental and professional perspective. They promote and greatly encourage parent involvement regardless of cultural background. They have a well kept school environment, very clean and organize. They strive to provide the best amenities with the help of community connection and fund rising.
P.S. 20 is an amazingly diverse and friendly school community on the lower east side. I was scared at first of the size and had hoped to enroll at one of the progressive schools in the area but this school won us over. My son started in Pre-K and is now in dual language Kindergarten learning Mandarin. Its simply amazing. The school doesn't feel big or threatening. The staff and teachers led by James Lee are great and Mr. Lee blows me away. His educational philosophy, involvement in the school on multiple levels, and the fact that I see him in the hall every morning show me how dedicated he is. Tracey Arrington is so nice and is the most competent parent coordinator I've met in the five schools we looked at in this neighborhood. This is a special place where parents can be involved and trust that their children are in a safe, wonderful, dynamic educational community.
The school is progressively getting better each year. The administration is taking an active role in communicating with parents and amongst themselves. I am confident the best is yet to come.
It is a warm loving and caring environment. Teacher's are always dedicated to helping there students achieve there goals.
My grandkids have been going to this school for about two years now. I would like to compliment the principal, assistant principal, teachers and staff who have welcomed all four of my grandkids in. They have all been patient respectful understanding and have always been active with them from day one. Unlike their previous schools they have attended. They are very polite and take their time with each child individually. I love that they have extra activities for the students to join.
I'm gratefull for this school & their staff! they work hard to improve the school for the kids. They do so much to show the parents how to help our kids and make it fun. I am happy to have my son go to this school.
Although I am a staff member at this school I am a parent of 4 children and for this reason my comments come from the heart of a parent! Our teachers and staff truly teach from the heart!.. They are not only involved in the academics of our students but truly care about developing a well rounded child which includes but is not limited to academics, social and economical development.. We offer a great deal of support, programs and incentives not only to our students but to our parent body as well. We are here to educate not only our students but our families as well.
P.S. 188 The Island School is raising the bar! The school has become an absolute model for the community. As a parent, I have seen my child's success and her increasing academic achievements. This school overall works really well as a team... Thank you so much,
I am a parent of a 5th grader in this school and never had any complaints...thought the school was wonderful, until my younger son, who gets related services and started kindergarten this year. It is a nightmare. Especially since nobody at the school including the principal doesn't give you a straight answer on my sons services. I am very disappointed. I thought the stories of how the public schools are not very compliant and are very unreliable when it comes to children with related services.
i am a parent of this school i am happy to say that i had 3 of my children graduate one is in college going on his second year and my daughter graduating next year for high school and my other daughter just graduated for 188 and now she is going to high school and my baby girl is going to the 6th grade so is ps188 a good school i say yes it is the staff is wonderful i will miss ps188 in three more years my baby girl will be leaving
P.S. 188 is a wonderful school. The staff is full of caring and motivated individuals that are the best role models a student can have. The school has a safe environment. there are so many extra curricular activities such as flag football, tennis, violin classes and a chorus. I graduated from this school and still remember what a wonderful time I had there.
PS 188 is a a great school for every child. 188 has a very dedicated, caring, and commited staff where a low performance child can get all that support and tutoring to succeed academically and high performance students are challenged as well. PS 188 is a happy, safe environment. Our students always have a smile even after a long day of hard work. Students arrive at 7:00 A.M. and leave at 7:30 P.M. This a big plus. I highly recomend parents to visit PS 188.
I have my twin boys attending this school at the present time. We couldn't be any happier and proud to have our kids attending such a wonderful school. The outstanding leadership of the principal and assistant principal, the dedicated and wonderful teachers, the kind and exceptional stuff, especially the parent coordinator and everybody from the afterschool program, and the motivated students make of this the most wonderful learning experience for any kid. This is a school of outstanding academic standards and the children are treated with care and respect. Keep up the amazing job PS 188!
This is definitely one of the highest achieving public schools in NYC. The rankings as measured by standardized tests are consistently among the top, and the quality of education the children gets is just excellent. I know many parents who move to this neighborhood because of this school.
I loved this school ! the teachers are very dedicated to push the students to do the best that they can ! My child was very happy to attend this middle school becoming of the welcoming environment and the hard work the teachers put into making sure the students succeed. I am very satisfied that my child attending this middle school.
The teachers and staff in this school are very organized and determined to make the students succeed! I am very satisfied with the work the teachers put in to help my child get into high school. i feel very confident with my child going to high school now because i know he would be prepared because of this school.
P188 is great when it counts... Role Models. Their staff really help the kids on a daily bases. I saw how Ms Almonte was reaching out, concern over my son missing homework in math. We stepped it up and my boy was able to graduate, because he passed his city-wide math exam. Thank You. I definitely recommend this school.
My son just graduated from this school and I have nothing but great things to say about The Island School. Eventhough he was only there for a year, I am proud to say that the education and preparation that has been provided to him for High School has been exceptional. The teachers are kind, dedicated and have great expectations for the students. And last but not least Ms. Ramos is a great leader who practices an open door policy and was always available to update me on my son's progress or downfalls.
