This school is a rare find. The children are happy to go to school. The environment is nurturing. The teachers are passionate and talented. Their progressive approach to teaching is refreshing and exciting. They believe learning should be fun. Focus is on developing the child all around emphasizing character as well as academics and the arts. The headmaster is a strong, good, principled leader. He is respectful to all parents, and will not be influenced by the wealth of any one. He does not cater to any nonsense. In order to truly teach character and the values this school stands for, the headmaster and staff must lead by example. And, that is what they do. The result is the most conducive environment for learning, and a school family of parents ,students, and teachers that are down to earth, good, respectful people.

We spent two years at PDS. Our daughter was amazingly happy and confidant there. It's a cozy, small intimate environment, less than 120 families from nursery to grade 5. Loved their classic emphasis...A Midsummer's Night Dream in K! They studied Mozart, Monet, poetry etc in addition to solid science, language arts, English and reading. Spiritual component is tops; daily story or parable at assembly, vegetarian lunch and teaching a mini meditation between activities called a pause. At lunch they mix up who you sit next to daily, k next to a 4th next to a 3rd etc. Many specials like publishing parties, field day, character alive day, talent week. Gorgeous brownstone that goes with classic curriculum. Downside is huge attrition rate. In K out of 19, 9 kids left. One year only two kids left for entire 5th grade. This is due to ineptitude of Headmaster who is widely viewed as inappropriate and offensive to parents. Correlation to how rude he is versus how much wealth parents have(more $ = more insults). Linked hugely to night school , Head ingrained there so no needed ouster coming. Nicest down to Earth parents, lots of opportunity to go into classroom, input heard by teachers.wonderful
