Hi I am an indian who has a child in a private school predominantly white, this is her first year so i thought of having some playdate and asked one of the parents for a movie (free) in a library but last moment she dropped out this is the second time she is dropped out i was wondering if there is any better way to arrange a playdate so everyone would be comfortable and it will help my daughter 6 year old to make some friends in the new school? what would be appropriate culture wise please advise
Are there other kids your child is comfortable with? It very well could be this is a flakey (less than reliable) parent. Some parents think nothing of committing and then cancelling. It's sad for both your child and theirs.
You might want to find out where the more common hang outs are for your daughter's school. For instance, at my daughter's school, many parents move to the park/nature walk across the street from the school. The parents talk, and the kids run around and blow off steam--it's less formal than a playdate, and it can last from 20 minutes to an hour. Sometimes, parents meet afterschool at a McDonalds and let the kids play while the parents have a cup of coffee.
If you're not aware of any of the hangouts, ask around. As a last resort, you can always ask the teacher who your child plays with during the day and then give your number to that parent and go from there.
Some people live more disorganized lives than others - I'm not sure that it's accurate to assume that because this family backed out and two times that it means they're not comfortable. They could be simply disorganized.
Culturally things can be different in different cities here and in different regions of the country too but in our region, inviting children to each other's homes is commonly done as playdates.35105
