This school is great because they give us active learning in many engaging ways like module. I do not regret applying for a great school like this because it gives you a 21st century experience with more online stuff instead of textbooks. The teachers here are really kind and the students here too. Not only do we get more freedom like going out for lunch but we also get our own personalized schedules. We also have this place called the commons which is really nice and advisories which help students bond together. The only thing I wish they would could improve on is their PE. They also don't give a lot of homework because they would rather have you be active in the community by joining programs or doing activities outside of school!
Hola la escuela de mi hijo es NYC ischool estoy muy orgullosa de esa escuela es una de las mejores en la ciudad con muy buenos profesores y los estudiantes son buenos y salen bien preparados para su futuro
The iSchool is a model for the 21st century student. It's hard to think of any part of the iSchool experience that I would change. i am currently a junior and i am completely in love with this school. From freshman year, students receive elite guidance from their instructors and advisers. Even though the environment isnt very competitive, each student finds it within themselves to push and strive to be better. All teachers must allow all students to redo what we call mastery assignments, which allows us to maximize our grade at all times during the quarter. The diversity of the student body speaks for itself. All races hang out with each other. And unlike most high schools, there are NO CLIQUES in the ischool. Because the grades are mixed together, freshman have the opportunity to meet upperclassmen. This may seem intimidating at first, but this really contributes to the iSchool experience. Since from a young age freshman mingle with older students, when that freshman gets to be an upperclassmen, they help create a safe environment for all students. This classroom system is part of the reason why we have NEVER had a fight in our schools history. Great School, Students, and Staff!
My daughter will be attending this school in the fall. We were very impressed with the tour, and we think that the admissions process asked very interesting and thought provoking questions. We are looking forward to this school!
Our family is really impressed by this wonderful school. My son made an easy and comfortable transition from middle school and we are impressed by the creativity and dedication of the faculty. The I-School has managed to combine traditional learning with topically important modules that are relevant to young people. I'm happy that my son is studying Nuclear Proliferation and developing knowledgable and responsible attitudes towards our planet and its people. Socially the school's atmosphere appears to have room for a diverse set of students- a tolerant and welcoming learning community.
Although it took some time to adapt to the technology based learning, my child caught on, became comfortable and loved it. Teachers demonstrate enthusiasm, dedication and a genuine interest in their students and students demonstrate an eagerness to learn. Each and every one of my daughter's classmates/friends are intelligent, mature and respectful kids. The principal, teachers & advisors really show they care about the students and have an open door policy to assist them with questions/needs. Parents are kept in the loop regarding everything that goes on; concerns have always been promptly dealt with. The size of the school allows for a personable and comfortable environment for students and teachers to interact more. Students are assigned a dedicated advisor to guide them, give advice and help track their academic performance with the ultimate goal of sending them off to college. No academic or behavior issue is allowed to slide. It's not perfect but the good definitely outweighs the small kinks that need to be ironed out. So far, this really is a gem of a school with staff that tries hard to do their job well and I hope they continue to grow and to perform well.
It is our child's 1st year at ischool. We were very impressed at the tour with the mission of the school, class choices, teachers and administration. It seems like they offer an amazing program and my child loves it. The only negative is the quality of the kids. Since it's a new school, many of the kids got dumped there after not getting into their other choices because of poor grades or being disciplinary problems. So as a result, there are many kids who seem to be more concerned about doing drugs or drinking before, during and after and school. My child is a very good student and loves school. I hope that as more families learn about ischool and how different and amazing it is compared to most nyc schools, they will get a better quality of child.
