This will be my son's second year at this school. I can honestly say that I was happy with his progress as a sixth grader at West Prep. The administration is very supportive and so are the teachers. I always get responses to my emails and I was happy with the outcome of any concerns I had. My son's reading level jumped tremendously and he made honor role (super scholars) for the first time ever.

I was appalled when I saw Great School's rating of "2" for this school. I am the parent of an 8th grader, and I only have positive things to say about it. When applying for middle schools, I got very tired of touring racially unbalanced middle schools across the UWS. I liked West Prep because of their small size, diversity, and committed staff. I was also looking for a school that would not burden my child with 2-4 hours of homework a day. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at West Prep. Principal Padilla has a tremendous talent in hiring and since he came on board has completely restructured the teaching staff. Vice-Principal Washington demands respect from the students while being approachable and supportive. The 6th grade teachers my son had were talented, responsive to emails (sometimes on a daily basis!) and very supportive to my son. The 7th grade teachers were equally as approachable and supportive. My son enjoys school, is challenged, and is learning a lot. While I'm sure that he may have scored higher on his state assessment test had he gone to a different school, I would not trade the experience he has had at the school for that possibility.

My son was placed there after his 1st and 2nd choice middle did not select him. This school has no parent involvement. Our first parent association meeting consisted of 6 parent, which included my husband and I. What they are not going to tell you is that this school is moving Sept. 2011 to currently and undisclosed area in District 3. I removed my son and placed him elsewhere. I do diligently advised the school staff i.e. Principal, Asst. Principal, and especially the Parent Coord. who is rude and anti-parent. Today a DOE attendance person came to my home seeking my child since he was being marked absent and still on their attendance roll (16 days). The woman was astounded when she was told that we had informed all parties regarding my son transfer to the other school. This school is being set up for failure in my opinion.
