As an English teacher at UAGC over the last 4 years, I have managed to see a vision for the school that had good intentions become a collaborative and innovate learning environment under the stewardship of Principal Kerry Decker. At UAGC, we strongly believe that learning is our culture (which is why we use a model called Learning Cultures). We push for our students to follow through on their intentions to communicate and access information in the 21st century. By focusing on personalized conferencing, collaborative Unison Reading, Sharing and Responsibility Groups, students learn in a collaborative environment where learning is a social act. While this method is a struggle, as we do not believe in a direct transmission model of instruction, we all believe that we are providing students with the skills necessary to excel in the world beyond high school.
