Academically the school does great . There curriculum matches up to the an elite g&t program .The children are engaged in alot of programs and there always on field study. What I don't like is the lack of communication and dictatorship. There not willing to hear parents advice or suggestions. There are a lot of turn overs that a lot of people are not aware about. My daughter lucked out to a teacher who had been there for years but other parents had both lead and assistant teachers quit. I'm not sure weather network makes it really hard for them to work there or they move on to better opportunities but its not fair to the student growing into the school to graduate. The idea behind the program is great but being in the mix of all the political shanagains makes me wonder where this school is heading towards the near futre. The staff doesn't always accommodate students who are excelling at least in my experience and is not equipped as a private school would be. Out of my first year from a scale to 1-10 I would give it a 6 its still needs more improvement and the school is way overrated then it is advertised .
My daughter love it there, she comes home very tired but that's because of all the classes they have and she loves them all!!! I like the communications I get every day on how my child behave and worked, that's something you can not get in the public school setting.
My child is attending this school and now I fully believe i picked the right school for him, At first it was hard since I work full time but little by little it all fell in place the teachers are wonderful and though they are strict I understand now their theory our kids are there to learn, special thanks to everyone at HSA2.
This is one of the amazing schools in Harlem. The principal, Mr. Manly is great. He knows every childs name and greets them every morning with an outstretched hand to shake their little hands and welcome them back to school. The teachers are great at what they do but sometimes, they lack a little bit of patience. Although it is a long day for them, the kids do not feel like they have been in school all day. My child would like to go to school 7 days a week if given the chance. Classrooms are bright and hallways are clean. There is respect for everyone and kids aspire to go to college.
THIS SCHOOL MEETS MY STANDARDS AS A TOP NOTCH SCHOOL MY DAUGHTER WAS SKIPPED FROM THE FIRST TO THIRD GRADE BECAUSE THEY SAW HER POTENTIAL MY CHILD ALSO IS READING ON A SIXTH GRADE LEVEL AND SHE IS ONLY A SECOND GRADER.WHAT ALOT OF PARENTS FAIL TO REALIZE IS THAT THEY TOO HAVE TO SPEND TIME WITH THEIR CHILD TO MAKE SURE HOMEWORK IS DONE CORRECTLY AND NOT DONE BY THE PARENT AND SOME PARENTS GET COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR CHILD BECAUSE THEY HAVE A PROBLEM CHILD AND THEY DONT WANT TO ADMIT IT INSTEAD OF CORRECTING THE PROBLEM THEY WANT TO BLAME THE TEACHERS BECAUSE THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT THEIR CHILD. WHEN YOUR CHILD IS CAUSING A PROBLEM IN THE CLASS THE TIME THAT IS TAKEN TO DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILD IS TAKING AWAYPRECIOUS LEARNING TIME FROM THE OTHER STUDENTS
The teachers treat the children like robots. My daughter attend this school from 9/09 thru 6/10. They promised the same education as a private school but did not deliver. They criticize and penalize every thing a child or parent does. There is no school nurse, never answer the phone, and treat parents in a condescending manner.
