The IAL Trailblazers Athletic Department, in its 3rd year of existence, currently has ten middle school teams (flag football, volleyball, track, wrestling, girls/boys basketball, 5th/6th grade basketball, soccer, softball and baseball) and two 9th grade basketball teams. As the school continues to grow so will the growth of the Athletic program. Once a full 5th through 12th grade school we will also have JV programs and Varsity programs for multiple sports at the high school level. The leagues we compete in are the Charter School Athletic Association, NYC Middle School Basketball League, NYC Middle School Baseball League, Play Study Win Middle School Soccer League, Beat The Streets NYC and NYRR Young Runners. While we have won a championship in Baseball at the middle school level our greatest success thus far has been developing character and discipline in our student-athletes. In time our part of our success will also be the development of college-bound and college level student athletes.
Inwood Academy Charte School is an amazing school. Children and parents are welcome and treated with care and respect. The staff goes out of their way for the kids and each child is treated as an individual. Not every child learns at the same pace and IAL works to make each child feel special and cared for. I will always sing praises about the school. Thank you for helping both of my children to become interested in learning.
Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School (IAL) is a free, family-oriented, teacher-run school. We are committed to excellence and choice in public education for the families of Inwood, Washington Heights, and Upper Manhattan and are delivering on that commitment. IAL's academic program is designed to inspire students' intellectual curiosity and confidence. Our program utilizes the NYS Common Core Standards to pair content knowledge with skills development. All IAL scholars take classes in four core subjects - English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics - as well as Art, Language, Music, Writing, PE and Health. We provide intensive support and remediation for all English Language Learners as well as students scoring below grade level. This support includes multiple teaching "specialists," proven math/reading remediation programs and our Summer Boot Camp combined with after-school and Saturday classes. Please visit our website at www.inwoodacademy.org to learn more about what makes us an exceptional public school.
This school is wonderful. Even though they are going to have a high school they encouraged us to apply to other schools but I'm definitely staying there. They try to be really honest with us. If we do something disappointing we have a school wide meeting. We try to express the idea of family and being able to trust one another. It's like a home outside of home. Anyone can find where they belong and feel loved and cared for.
