Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

It is a good school. the school can be lot better if school administration (especially principal) and some stabborn teachers can forget their personal grivences and work for the students. Parents participation is also very low - especially fathers! there were hardly any father present in PTA meetings for the last 4 years i was associated with the PTA. presence of students very much needed especially in SLT(school leadership team) meetings and they must have an opportunity to express their problems/solutions without fear of repercussion! this school has lots of potential please try to keep it up.

It's average. Way too many students. Some of the teachers are really good, while others are just waiting until their retirement comes up.

I attended this Highschool . It was called Benjamin Franklin HS. I managed to get through College and medical school, and attended law school. Typical PR hispanic boy. Went through the USAF and retired. I learned a great deal here. There was only one problem that I remember; bad kids in classes who should be in jail, not in school. Thank God, back then there was tracking....

I now have three children attending this school now. I have one senior, one freshman and one in the middle. This year I have seen a notable drop in school quality and student s altitudes. Some great programs are disappearing and some cut down. The student body is starting to appear as average. My oldest child use to have a great summer selecting from programs to volunteer ant the hospitals to attending CCNY classes. Some teachers these days have the opinion of more homework rules over better quality homework. My kids were overwhelmed with homework during this past Spring-break. There are more and more crazy project deadlines and unreasonable workload. So now my children are overworked and have to deal with lower standards in student body. I changed my previous rating from 4/5 stars to 3/5 stars.

I love MCSM. My parents wantedme to transfer out of the school before they learned anything about it. Now they regret the decision, and so do I. I want to stay there. The staff are incredible. The principle and deans are strict but cool. I love my guidance councler. I love Manhattan Center!

Manhattan Center offers a pretty diverse group of students and there's no such thing as 'cliques' in our school. Everyone simply gets along and mingle, thus making MCSM one of the best schools ever.

I like my school because unlike other schools in NYC, we don't have to wear uniform and we have outside lunch. It is one of the biggest and prettiest school I've seen.

Manhattan Center is a great High School. It specializes in Math and Science, two strong educational subjects. The school provides many rigorous programs for students to excel in life. They have a great community service status, including a recently upgraded Greenhouse. MCSM helps students by offering Advanced Placement courses. They have great after school activities for both academic and personal interests. This school is ranked among the top Math and Science school within the district. It was many great qualities and offers great opportunities, which is why students are attracted to attending it.

Manhattan Center is an excellent school. It certainly proves that looks can be deceiving. The teachers are all wonderfully experiences and proves every student with wonderful knowledge along with interest. Connecting with teachers are very easy as many seem to be like your friends. The school is highly diverse with kids coming from all over the five boroughs. With no doubt, the courses ranged with AP classes to electives courses such as Forensic Science. Most of all, the school is all about safety of the students in the school.

Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics has a great campus. A mall is being constructed right next to the school, anything you want to eat during lunch is right around the corner. Did i forget to mention we get to go out for lunch. The school also offers several ap courses and even if your a pretty average student they make your transcript look glorified by giving you as many classes as they can so that you can graduate with an advanced diploma and more credits than required. Regents scores in Manhattan Center are generally high and in my opinion we have some of the best and most caring teachers.

Our students contribute to their communities (home and school) above and beyond the rigorous workload that they challenge themselves with. They take great pride in all that they do and they truly make a difference for themselves, their classmates, their school, and the great city of New York. I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with and learn from these amazing children.

With a vast selection of extra curricular programs and enough AP courses to challenge your mind from freshman to senior year, I must say my years in MCSM have been wonderful. Entering my senior year I am excited about senior events and spirit week as well as the continuation of serving my school and community with the Chidren's aid society. The greatest perks of this school would definitely be the large diversity of students and faculty and of coarse the freedom to go out for lunch. Teachers are extremely nice and helpful and setting their students up to succeed with tutoring and extra credit projects. I will look back on my high school years and remember some of the best experiences Ive had in my live.

I'm a junior at this school. I think MCSM is a very challenging and an overall great high school, but the acceptance of all zoned kids is sadly bringing down the school's academic achievements. They should be a little more selective in choosing incoming freshmen.

This is my first year in Manhattan Center and so far, I like it. The curriculum and after school curriculum are very good, even though most of the things offered are offered to juniors and seniors. You get to go out for lunch but if you're not outgoing, you won't have that many friends, but this is a diverse school, so there is a friend for every type of person

I was a former student who graduated in 2004 and I loved my time at Manhattan Center. It truly is a college preparatory high school. I saved thousands of dollars in college with AP credits I took at MCSM. Steve Askinazi, the former principal , was the best. I was lucky enough to be in his student principal advisement. I gained so many opportunities at MCSM. It is absolutely a great school.

My daughter has a very challenging workload at this school. The curriculum is very rigorous and ranks closely with The Bronx High School of Science. The teachers and principal are very concerned about their students and have no tolerance for any tardy students and cutters. The principal was my seventh and eighth grade Spanish teacher and is great. I know my daughter's friend who moved to New Jersey over the summer has been accepted to every Honor Class in her new school. Job well done.

I just graduated from the school. I had such a great experience. MCSM has a great college prep office/program. There is a wide range of extra-curriculur activities for students, ranging form chess to electronics to dance to peer tutoring to debate, just to name a few of the scores of programs available. The support staff and teachers are great! I had such a wonderful experience. While at school, I took four different advanced placement courses. The curriculum is challenging. There is a class for every level. The teachers are great. They stay extra hours and do extra study perdiods, especially during final/midterm/regents time. They are an exemplary staff. I can't forget to mention that the security staff can get rather bothersome since they ask for i.d.'s all the time and usher everyone into classrooms or wherever they have to be. I felt safe, educated, and great. Don't forget about our engineering and medical programs affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital and GE. MCSM was one of the top 200 schools in the city! Mr. Askinazi mingles with the students and is constantly in the halls assuring we all ok. His office was always open in case we needed some one to talk to. As well as the other teachers.

I have a child in Manhattan Center for Science & Mathematics. I have found the school so far to have a very challenging curriculum, and good teachers. I feel however that the Spanish curriculum needs help, or rather, Teachers who can teach this class with more interest. The Science and Math classes are great and right on target with standards.
