Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

How well you do -- it all depends on the student. My student loves the warm embrace of the school. The girls are NICE and she feels a part of the school. The pace of learning is quick and you have to stay on top to achieve high grades, otherwise it could be unforgiving. With the use of Cornerstone, the grades are easily viewed online so you can keep track of their progress. My student looks forward to school everyday and it offers a safe environment in the heart of Soho.

Both of our children entered OLP in 2008 and left in 2011 when we moved from New York. We travelled each school day all the way from White Plains and it was worth it for the Catholic atmosphere and great indvividual care each child received in class. It was 3 excellent academic years for our children who continue to excell in the schools they now attend. Keep up the good work!

We are very satisfied with the academics and Catholic formation. The neighborhood is an integral part of the school experience.

Our Lady of Pompeii is catholic school that has been around for 80 years. It has a strong focus on academics but also emphasizes art, music and physical education. Childern from Pre K 3- 8th grade work together as a community. It is so wonderful to see 8th graders reading to the little ones. The school just celebrated its 80th anniversary.

I attended Our Lady of Pompeii in the 1950's and it was an excellent school back then. I attended from pre-K through 8th grade and it was a wonderful experience. The nuns were great and the lay teachers could not have been better. I am happy to hear they are keeping up the incredible work of their predecessors. Thanks.

I' am so happy, and so is my son. He's learning things that are not being taught at public schools. What my son is learning and what he's been taught so far can't conpare to whats being taught at public school. I have an older son that went to P.S.234 and was not being taught the curriculum that is taught at Our Lady Of Pompeii. The teachers are good, the sisters are excellent, but most of all it's the principal that makes the school what it is.

I can't think of a better school for my son. The school has the perfect combination of academics, social skills development, discipline, encouragement, and nurturing. I am re-learning quite a lot through my son. I would recommend this school to any parent looking for the most well-rounded curriculum in the city.

Our Lady of Pompeii School teaches more than just academics, it also teaches community and caring. The students all care for each other and look out for one another. Pompeii does have a great academic program and offers advance classes but it is the compassion for others that it teaches that I think is its strong point.

Our Lady of Pompeii is a great family oriented school. Excellent teachers, staff, and students. School has alot to offer: academics, scholarships, talent and more. Would not dream of changing schools.

My son Anthony has been at OLP for 4 years. The best thing that I did for my son was taking him from public school , (which lasted only for 1 week)and enrolling him at Our Lady Of Pompeii. Ilove the traditional way of teaching, and I also like the fact that they are taught about god, something this country is trying to forget about. This is one of the better Catholic Schools around.

The lower school is excellent; however, it is the middle school that is the problem. While the teaching quality is more than satisfactory, the teachers are prone to overreacting and taking out bad days on students. The school does little or no disciplinary action to troublesome students. The computer lab is pathetic and a language and more extracurricular activities are needed.

I opted to put my child at OLP in the hopes that she would receive quality education. We are not satisfied with OLP because thorough academic preparation needs reconsideration and improvement. The children must carry 20 lbs. of text books up and down the stairs, there's limited time to learn lessons before tests/quizzes are given out. The progress reports may sound very helpful, however they are overwhelming and confusing to the children as well as most parents. Measures should be taken up with children who are trouble makers, instead of punishing the group or class as a whole. OLP has become more of a disappointment than in recent years. Education starts in the home, but needs to be nurtured in school. I believe our children deserve better.

As a graduate of this school I really love it. The children make excellent memories there. In my opinion though, with the loss of a few great teachers the school is different. Even so , I would recommend the school because it is a very nice place to make lifelong friends.

I go to O.L.P. and I love it. With the loss of teachers (ms. butler, mrs. sevilla, and sr. doretta) this school isn't the same, but the new teachers are settling in just fine and they are all very friendly and helpful. Some of the staff members are extremely nice and heart-warming. We learn so much and we have a great time while we are learning. The AP classes are very interesting and have taught me many of the things that I need to know for high school. In all, I love OLP and I definitely recommend this school to anyone and everyone. All of the students get along well, no matter what grade they're in. Come to OLP and be ready for the experience of your life!

My son's school was closed this year so he applied and he was tested at OLP. Our experience was a big surprise to us even from the first day that we visited the school. OLP it's a dream school. The principal is the most professional and caring person that I've seen in my entire life. She greets all the students and parents every morning coming to school and she is constantly involved throughout the school, monitoring the classes, school renovations. She is a warm and very intelligent person. The teachers are great, professional with broad experience and caring. My son's teacher is amazing, with 40 years of experience, motivates my son to excel this year. All the other teachers and staff are excellent. The student population is great, well educated and bright. My son joined a drama/acting club and is continuing saxophone playing. My son is very happy at OLP.

Absolutely wonderful school. Children score in the highest percentile on state tests and get into the best high schools. After-school available for nominal fee. Safe and warm environment. Community relations and great faculty help this school succeed!

I love Our Lady of Pompeii, the teachers are well prepared for everyday lessons, lunch is optional, if you don't like what they serve, you bring your own, and the staff really helps the school in times of need. Students of OLP are well educated, and don't forget, a good education starts at home.

I like the fact that the students start each day with a morning prayer in church and that the princpal greets them every morning and lets all the students know about current events that are taking place in the school. The academic program I feel depends on the teacher. You have some great teachers in the 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade. In general the school has great kids attending the school.

As an alumnus of the school, whose child is currently attending it, I can honestly say that OLP is a fabulous school that offers a top-notch education. Music, art, computer, gym, and library are classes that are integrated into the weekly schedule, along with sports, foreign language, and drama which are offered as afterschool activities. The principal, teachers, and support staff are all top-notch, and this helps the parents work together with them! I love this school!(and more importantly so does my child)

Our Lady of Pompeii has come a long way and is now one of the finest elementary schools in lower Manhattan. The children become a family to one another and are nurtured by a very caring staff. The school has high academic standards. I would highly recommend it.

Pompeii has been a wonderful home for my chilren for many years. They were both well prepared for high school and loved the teachers they had at Pompeii. My husband and I were very pleased and have encouraged our friends to send their chilren there too. The new principal is highly inovative and seems to be moving the school forward.

I am an alumni of OLP and my son has been attending since 4 years old. OLP is where the children come first. Each child is encouraged to do their personal best. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. The principal is very committed to education and the schools mission statement.

My child has been attending OLP for the past four years. Our family finds the school to be a nurturing environment with a caring staff and a wonderful new principal. The facilities are currently being updated and extra curricular activities range from film making to Italian, tennis and many more. The children test well and are challenged intellectually. I would highly reccomend OLP to any parent.

I do not reccomend this school. I have been in the school for 10 years and have had too many serious problems with the administration of the school. There have been 4 principals in 5 years adding to the increasing instability in the school and its future. There is no PTA and no parental involvement is accepted when it comes to making decisions regarding the children and teachers. The school is run by nuns who have the opinion that they are never to be questioned. They still use disciplinary tactics from years gone by. It is not a nuturing enviroment. In fact the bldg is in seriously neglected condition. What you see is not what you get.

Over the past 6 years that my child has attended the quality of education has gone down tremendously. More concern has been placed on dress code than education. Teacher qualifications has also dropped especially in the higher grades. It's also bad when the kids know more than the teacher. I wouldn't recommend the school anymore and that is a real shame. There was a time when this school was one of the best. No more.

This school is more concerned about who you know and who you are than student ability and education level. In other words you will receive better grades if your parentsguardians are overly friendly with teachers and principals. It is also a plus if the parent holds a position in any way affiliated with New York Government or is a High ranking associate of the NYPD. Stay Away.
