Dual language is one of the best middle schools in the city. they are strict but fair. The teachers really do care. My son has been to four schools in the last 2 years. Dual Language was the best one. It is tough at first, but really does prepare child for a good high school. check out there ranking with DOE , to see the proof. You will not get better attention than at this school.
According to the Dept of Education's 2009-2010 NYC School Survey, MS 247 has nearly 80% new teachers who have been teaching only 1-3 years. Almost 25% less than one year! Same principal has been at this school since 2003 and has had little success keeping good, experienced staff. When you chase that many staff out of your school year after year, you have to stop blaming teachers for absolutely everything and question the leadership and the overall professional climate. Principal bullies and micromanages staff to an unbearable degree. Teachers are criticized and humilitated in front of kids. Most staff quit as a result. It's simply not good for kids to have a stressed out staff composed of new teachers in survival mode from year to year. This school suffers from poor leadership.
The parent coordinator is great. This school considers your child achivements. Although is more like a bootcamp. Young teachers with no experience in children behavior, safe neighborhood. Tiny shared space. Children eat lunch @10:30 when is breakfast.
This school is a type of school where you know that your child would fit in, especially if your latino. The teachers make you feel at home and they make learning so much fun. This school helped me alot and the dicipline is real good. Everybody makes your kid feel welcome and thats a good thing and there are no bullys. I loved this school!
