I am new to the school and I do think it is a good school. I know my children are getting a better education at BDMS than they would at my local public school. Good families and good kids go there. The only down side is paying tuition and the milllion and one fundraisers. Also, I think they need to ban children having electronic devices in the school and on the bus. My kids have been exposed to things that I wish they hadn't.

Not a very good middle school. TEaching style relies more on memorizario. The teachers don't give students a lot of support except to the few whose parents are involved in the school. Favoritism is a choking reality. I was very disapointed. However, it is a safe bubble type of environment.

To the person who said most of the teachers, if not all of them, do not have a masters degree - you could not be more wrong! On the contrary, most of them do!!

I am not impressed by the school. It is a safe environment but teachers are of poor quality. Most of them , if not all of them, don't have a master degree. If you are looking for a bubble this is the right choice. But the teaching style is very traditional, creativity is not welcomed. Electives are very few. A lot of favoritism going on too. The best component of the school is their drama program and the setting. (Mount Saint Mary College).

I am amazed at the lack of awareness of some parents who are reporting on this site. Stating that there are no hands on experiences in the science program is an absolute falsehood; obviously these parents have never been to the school or talked with their students. In the middle school program, there is an activity or experiment that accompanies each topic from osmosis to rocks to disection to mineral comparisons. Topping them all off is the making of lolly pops, a favorite activity for the students. There is also the miosis jig and the element song for the more musically inclined scientist! Those negative parents should have gotten to know the school better; I wonder at the real cause of their unhappiness!!! BDM is a wonderful learning environment for all ages and all types of students.

as a student in BDM. I found lots of your comments misleading. I came to this school in 7th garde and loved it ever scince. The teachers are amazing and the school has a good amount of activities offerd. As a student that is not in honors, i see no favoritetism what so ever. In science we do lots of lab experiments and even make lolipops. When i went to a newburgh public school for seven years, i did not like the enviorment . Now that i am at bishop dunn i enjoy the enviorment and think it is a very good school. The drama program is amazing and the dancing is even better. It may seem that there are favorites in the drama program but there isnt. Even as a dancer there still is a lot of comment required. The feild trips are great and i enjoy attending this school.

I m surprised at some of the negative BDMS feedback on this site. I have two children at the school; one in 5th and the other in 7th grade. They started at the school in pre-K and K. I have only positive feedback to give. The teachers are outstanding in every grade. This is not your typical catholic school. It is very nurturing and supportive of each child s needs. There is plenty of support form Mount St. Mary s college which the school is on the campus of. Extra help is often available from student teachers in addition to the normal staff. The middle school teachers in particular are very good. They leave the school well prepared for high school. The administration works very hard to maintain high standards both academically and morally.

This school has POOR education in the middle school. In the beginning of the year the teachers don't give you a chance to show how bright you are they just throw you into regions or honors. The parents who volunteer will have their kids in honors and the kids with parents who actually work get put into regions. They put favorites into the good place for drama. I recommend NOT to put your child into this school. They don't do hands on activities AT ALL in Science.
