My children attend Saw Mill Rd School and I've been happy with the teachers and the school. They LOVE it! I feel the children are all treated equally and the teachers care about the needs of the children.
Saw Mill Road school is great if you fit the mould. For even slightly diverse families looking for a open minded and nurturing environment for your child to excel, perhaps this is not the place for you, although I would venture to say that much of the south shore of Long Island is the same. Being an educator and having lived here for many years, it's an unfortunate reality that regardless of your socioeconomic status or level of education, certain groups will always be treated as second-class citizens.
I have one child in Saw Mill and another one entering Kindergarten in September. I am so pleased with the two teachers my son was placed with. He has learned so much and has developed such confidence as a learner it is amazing. I owe it all to these fabulous teachers who have provided him such a rewarding learning experience.
I have one child in Saw Mill who just finished kindergarten. His experience was terrific and I feel terrible for the parent who had a bad experience with her child who is an inclusion child. I am also a teacher and I believe that teaching tolerance to your children is first and foremost. I hope that any new students and parents entering Saw Mill have as positive an experience as I had.
My experience was not good.My child recommended to come here for an inclusion class for kindergarden. The class was disorganized and the teacher was extremely uncooperative when it came to me or my son.I also came under fire by many parents regarding my son and his reason for being there. The district has placed all inclusion classes at this school and parents do not like this decision and me and my child were made to feel like second class citizens.
My daughter just finished her 5th year at saw mill and each year has been better than the previous. From administration to lunchroom helper the staff at saw mill has the children in mind first and foremost. The teaching staff is beyond incredible, caring, nurturing, kind, considerate, loving, stern, and professional. Just a wonderful experience for my daughter.
